Is it worth it to stay in Hana?

Hana's a beautiful place to live.

We're on the edge of the Big Island and its scenery is jaw dropping! We were lucky enough to spend just two nights there (3 days would have been great), but it was so nice to go there with plenty of time before we had to leave. It has such an easy-going feel that you hardly notice just how gorgeous Hana is. After all, you are just too busy walking around to explore every back street.

When I asked, Is it worth staying? or Is it worth saving money for?, it depends what you mean by 'worth'! Is it worth visiting for the scenery? Is it worth spending money to get the best food and experiences? Is it worthwhile because it is our last stop before we come back home, which means we need to enjoy it while it lasts? And, finally, is it worth doing all this because we want to write our blog post about Hana? Well, I think it is all these reasons! To save money is just not an option. This might be one of our priciest places and we have not gone yet! That said, I do believe, in my case, that I will never find an accommodation as pretty as the Blue House and Kilauea Rum. That hotel really is stunning! They also offer meals, spa treatments, tours and activities if you don't fancy cooking for yourself. (Hint: ask them to help you cook dinner when you return!)

If you want to spend time to learn about the culture and visit sites that cannot be easily visited from Hawaii's major airports, then stay in Hana! As for us, we spent a lot more time than we expected relaxing and trying different things out. The only disappointment was the rain which put some beautiful landscapes behind the gloomy grey clouds and the occasional cold wind, as well as the very dark nights. But, that is the way of life on the Big Island; it feels like it has a lot of rain and lots of humidity and, thankfully, a constant temperature (it can get quite hot during the day, too).

What I liked most in Hana. The architecture. The Blue House is a beautiful example of local architecture and the other houses in Hana share the same simple, yet unique architectural style.

How would you describe your recent vacation? A fabulous getaway! Who needs a trip? What does a trip offer? Time to relax one of Hawaii's most beautiful, unspoiled beaches! There's more than enough to see, do, and enjoy. You're in paradise! Do your expectations about what you'd experience typically align with what you actually experienced? My expectations accurately reflect what I actually experienced. What did you like most about your vacation to Honolulu Hawaii? We were not disappointed. This is a special property located on Maui's most spectacular beach; beautiful people, beautiful property, beautiful service. No wonder were not disappointed. If you stay here or if your friends have stayed here, you will understand why it is "out of this world". It was like being in a luxury resort in Hawaii with an exclusive price. We enjoyed our time there and when we return there, it will be for years to come. The beach has been named the number one beach by National Geographic readers. We would love to come back.

Would you recommend a vacation at this property? Most definitely! What about your vacation contributed the most value to you? The value of the hotel. It is the most luxurious property in the United States.

What is so special about Hana-Maui?

If you haven't seen the movie, then I'll give you a little back story first.

Hana-Maui is the fictional island that was the backdrop of the movie. The movie is about a couple on vacation who get stranded on the island and their survival depends on each other.

I decided to make a "real" version of this blog to share my adventures, stories and experiences as I get on the water and explore the many islands that make up the beautiful State of Hawaii.e. If you want to know where to find me, here are my coordinates: 1/8 of a degree latitude north of the equator, longitude 177 degrees east of the prime meridian. Friday, July 13, 2024. It was my best friend's 40th birthday. She told me she wanted to go on a boat trip to Molokai, and when I found out that the last time I was on a boat, it was my honeymoon with her, I figured that I should just let her have it. I'm glad I did, because it was the best birthday present I could have received.

We had to be at the pier at 9:00 a.m. To meet the captain of the catamaran (which is what we are calling it), and were lucky enough to grab a spot right in front of the entrance. We were the first ones on the boat. Since we had the whole front row, the captain decided to take a while to get us settled in. After we sat down, the captain started talking to us about the route we would be taking.

He told us that he's only been to the northern side of Molokai.e. He said that the trip to the southern side is a much shorter but much rougher ride.

When he told us this, he had some interesting stories about how he came to own the boat. In 1998, he bought the boat and was going to put the boat up for sale, but he didn't want to do it because he didn't want to sell his boat. One day, he got a call from a man who wanted to know if he would sell his boat to him. When the man explained what he was doing, the captain thought that it sounded pretty weird so he told him no. The man then offered to buy his boat.

Is the Road to Hana worth it?

There's always a debate about whether the Road to Hana is worth it, whether we should make the climb from Kunming to Hana.

In my mind, the only debate is "Is it worth it? The journey has proven itself to be one of the most memorable in my life. And for that I'm grateful.

The Journey. The first time I ever took the road was with a group of college friends in the fall of 2024. We rented a car, took the turnoffs for towns in the middle of nowhere, and got to the bottom of a trail that started in Lijiang, which for us was a bit like going to the moon.

It was a beautiful day and the town had just fallen asleep in the late afternoon. The valley was a wonder to behold, and we got to stay there for a couple days and explore. It was an unforgettable experience.

Since then I've been back many times. I've seen the sunrise over the lake at the base of the pass. I've stood in the middle of the road as night fell and the surrounding mountains were lit up by the moon. And I've gotten to meet some of the people I'd only read about in travel guides.

In short, I don't think there's any doubt about whether the trip is worth it. But. For a lot of people, the trip is not worth it. It's too long. It's too expensive. It takes too much time. It's dangerous.

So when we start debating whether the road is worth it, I think it's fair to say that the opinions of those who haven't experienced the trip are probably uninformed. But that doesn't mean the opinions of those who have the trip are equally uninformed.

I've been fortunate enough to have a good friend who lived in Hana from 2002-2003. She went through some of the same things I did. She told me the stories I could never hear otherwise. She knows what I know.

And the bottom line is this: for me, the road to Hana was one of the most memorable experiences in my life. I don't doubt that it's also for others.

What it's like. So what do we think about it? For me, it was worth it. For my friend, it was worth it.
