How competitive is Illinois Tech?

Is it hard to get into Illinois Institute of Technology?

Is it really a great school?

It's all in my book. To help you find an education that meets your needs and expectations, I have prepared a list of the schools ranked among the top 600 in the United States (www.topuniversities.com) or the world (www.global.ucsb.edu).

Illinois Institute of Technology is not on either list because it is not a university per se. But since this Illinois-based list was published, IIT has added a number of new programs. It now offers a new two-year masters of science program, a professional degree for nurses (a first in the U. And Canada), a Ph.D. Program and an international education program for high school students in China and Korea, as well as its first doctorate.

My book ranks IIT among the 800 best colleges in the country. The rankings are based on information from the U. News and World Report, Forbes and other college guide books. But IIT officials say IIT's graduates are highly sought after because of its top faculty, reputation and unique education for the most competitive students. IIT also offers programs to adults who have attended the institution before and want to complete their degrees.

Although IIT does not rank among the top 200 universities in the world, a significant majority of professors come from the world's top 100 institutions and their research is highly cited in the scientific and academic communities. IIT provides a broad set of undergraduate majors and many of its engineering and science disciplines have more Ph. Students than those offered by the top six U.

In addition to being an ideal university for the very top students, IIT is a relatively affordable school. This is about 25 percent less than the median college cost for in-state students at U. Colleges and universities.

What does it take to get in? To be sure, it takes hard work, a lot of luck, good recommendations and connections. But IIT has taken some proactive steps to facilitate the entry of the very best students.

How competitive is Illinois Tech?

As an out-of-state transfer, there are several elements of my game that I can't really change.

(ie speed.) That being said, I'm sure my strengths and weaknesses from playing at home will be amplified. Illinois Tech is one of three teams (Ohio Northern, Central Michigan, and North Greenville) with whom I'll be competing for an NCAA DI scholarship. As my first year in the sport I'm hoping to use that to my advantage and make it through the tough field. The competition level will be tough for me, but I have the tools to do some damage.

What's the difference between playing club/travel ball and DI ball? At club/travel ball you run a 60-minute offense with 15-minutes left on the shot clock. You run 20 minutes plus fouls, 4 quarters. You win with a 3 pointer and your team is usually very young with most ages 8-12. At DI we run 1.5 hours offense with 40 minutes time-outs. You run 15 minutes plus fouls, 7 quarters. You win with a 3 pointer and your team has very few throwaways. In general, players get better playing club/travel ball because they experience playing with faster and more athletic teams. I plan to stay as low-key as possible (no social media), but I think club teams/recruiters may have a bigger influence on my progression than DI.

Why did you leave Indiana for Illinois Tech? I was looking for a team where I could improve while receiving individual help. That fit Tech because they emphasized the entire player. I want to improve my work ethic. Tech has a great academic atmosphere so I can earn a bachelor's degree in engineering by next summer.

What role will playing club/travel ball play in your final year? I don't have any desire to play club/travel ball this year. I'm trying to focus on school and getting stronger. This could be the last summer of fulltime basketball. I'll spend it doing what I enjoy: hanging out with my friends, going to the beach, and working out.

When I'm not at the gym working on my game, I'm playing ping pong against teammates on the floor.
