What is the #1 design school in America?

What is the ranking of IIT in the US?

Is it comparable to the other world universities?

I see a lot of people talking about how great IIT is, but then when asked why and who it's best ranked by, or how it compares to others, the response is very vague and no information is shared. Can someone please provide a source for these numbers? If so, what source is it from, and are they comparing it to the "right" things? Somebody on reddit said they were compared to MIT because they were ranked close to them, and I don't think MIT does a survey. In any case, I would really like to know, not only for myself, but for the other students here as well. We have to decide whether to come to IIT because of its ranking, or its reputation. We can't do either one of those if we don't know what we're comparing it to.

Also, can we get this same information for schools in India? Is there some kind of global ranking for Indian schools, that I've not heard of? I know this isn't exactly what you wanted, but it should be more informative than "I think IIT must be good". :) This is a very difficult question to answer, and I am far from an expert, but I will try to give my thoughts. First of all, when I hear someone say that they want to go to "X school" I typically ask them what school they are referring to. I am from Ohio, and when I am asked this question I tell them that IIT Bombay is the top engineering school in India, and is ranked by the Times Higher Education among the top 100 world universities, and that the engineering programs at IIT Bombay rank among the top 100 worldwide. I also tell them that many students that I meet from India and China have actually completed their degrees at IIT Bombay, and many others are considering going there as well. I explain to them that while the school is not named for the Institute of IT - Bombay, it actually is the top university in the country for engineering (and computer science).

Is IIT Chicago a good university?

There is no better answer to this question than the opinion of the thousands of successful students who graduated from IIT Chicago with bachelor's degrees.

We have an excellent reputation industry and business due to the quality of our teaching. Students are often hired immediately upon graduation.

However, some would argue the quality of education is only part of the picture. A school's overall value depends heavily on the caliber of the academic staff. A school may have a great faculty, but poor financial resources or administration. IIT Chicago has a very fine faculty in our area of specialization in nuclear engineering. Many of them teach large classes requiring special classroom facilities that other universities do not provide.

IIT Chicago has been accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission since 2024 and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities since 2024. Both organizations recognize the excellent work of our school as one of the "flagship" public science and technology schools that the organization approves. We are the first private institution to be fully accredited by both WASC and APLU.

As to admissions policy, we do not place a limit on the number of foreign students we accept each year. We consider the overall profile of students we admit. The academic average for all admitted students has been increasing. There is no preference based on any source of funding of any kind including tuition waivers.

Our best resource comes from our student's accomplishments. This is shown in their high employment rate upon graduation. These graduates have become industry leaders in nuclear engineering and in the energy technologies of alternative fuels. To name a few:

We invite you to visit the campus, and to speak to current students and alumni as they explain to you how much it means to them to have the opportunity to study at IIT Chicago. You might find the website www.itc.edu, and contact information for the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, at a good source of information on IIT Chicago.

I wish you a wonderful weekend. Please come back again.

David R. Barger, Dean of IIT Chicago Thank you. Dr. Peter Lehrman, Dean of Carnegie Mellon University Dear Dr.

I believe the word "hockey" comes from the Inuit term ahktuk, meaning "ice floes." (This isn't really true, but I'm going to play along with the myth.)

It's derived from the French noun hocquet, which originally referred to a stick that is used to beat ice. It was derived from hock, which means "to cut", via hocquet.

Hocquet, in its original sense, meant a heavy stick which by means of a loop one end had sharp edges all round its circumference, and being used as a weapon to beat the surface of an ice-floe. William Jones, 'History of the French Language', London, 1771, p. 467 So we have hocquet -> hockie -> hockeye -> hockey. The game of ice hockey was derived from the old-fashioned game of "mousquetaire". The ice was called moulinet, moulin or moulire. Then the moulinet came to the mind of the "mousquetaires" when a stick was drawn across the ice in an attempt to catch an opponent's puck and knock it out of the play. The game grew, and the moulinet was used as a net. Then the idea of moving the stick to hit the puck forward was derived from a goal stick used to hit the ball at a soccer game. After this, the word hockey was born.
