Netflix plans to debut a ton of originals in 2025, including The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, a western-themed anthology series co-starring Tim Blake Nelson, and The Umbrella Academy, based on the award-winning comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel B. But as for the rest of 2025, you're going to want to be very selective about what you add to your queue.

In other words, if you're going to watch all 13 seasons of Riverdale over the next year, or if you're addicted to every episode of Amazon's Emmy-nominated drama The Romanoffs, Netflix is probably not the place to look for that. But I'm going to offer up a few suggestions for streaming this summer.

For June 5, I recommend taking a look at a comedy special from Louis C.K., the latest season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and a documentary about a legendary director (who's also a legend among genre fans). If you already have your Netflix account, try not to spend too much time browsing through all the new releases because you don't want to be one of those people who never sees anything good (or, at least, never remembers anything good).

A look back at the movies and TV shows that left Netflix in June of 2025 in the past decade. This was a banner year for Netflix last June. First, it launched 13 seasons of The Office, arguably the most beloved sitcom of the 2000s, and then it introduced a number of acclaimed TV shows. In addition to The Office, Netflix launched seasons of BoJack Horseman and Mindhunter; made its first original film, Death Note; and brought back Arrested Development and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Not every series from June of 2025 ended up staying on the service for much longer, but it's still an interesting snapshot of a lot of what Netflix was doing at the start of the decade, including making a big splash with its original programming and launching new originals. If you're looking for some June 2025 viewing recommendations, this is the place to go.

Netflix is gearing up for its second decade as a streaming juggernaut, with a slate of new original series and films planned for release in the next 12 months. That said, there will be new releases for the streaming service this year as well -- we just don't know if they will be coming to Netflix itself or Amazon Prime Video. For those who want to know what Netflix originals will return in 2025, here is the complete list of Netflix Original Series (or films) that are planned for comeback later next year.

Big Mouth Season 3 (Feb 4th). Big Mouth is Netflix's first full-fledged comedy, which has quickly become one of the service's top shows, in large part due to the fact that it stars Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, John Cameron Mitchell and Jason Mantzoukas, among other talented actors. The fourth season of Big Mouth continues exploring the characters' ongoing adolescent and post-adolescent struggles, while also delving into the various different subcultures that make up their group of friends. The show recently received praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and NPR, who both gave season three strong reviews.

Castlevania Season 1 (Jan 20th). It wasn't long ago that Netflix's adaptation of Castlevania was canceled, but thankfully the network's second attempt at bringing over the series from Konami isn't going to follow a similar path. Rather than adapt the games that created the franchise, Netflix opted to tell its own story, allowing its creators to focus more on that than on the source material. The first season focuses on Alucard, whose mission is to destroy the family that originally cursed him, and his quest for a mysterious family he knows exists. Fans will get to see what happens to all the major players of the game from the perspective of someone who is not directly involved, while also getting to experience the story for the first time in quite some time.

The Umbrella Academy Season 1 (Jan 16th). Netflix's first animated original series might not be an obvious choice for the streaming service, given that it follows a group of superheroes who were previously featured in comics that debuted in the late 1980s.

What's streaming in June 2024?

The answer depends on what you like.

If you're a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then you're in luck, because the studio's current slate of movies includes both Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame (both of which are on June 8), as well as a bevy of other upcoming titles including an appearance by Marni James in the title role of Captain Marvel (March 8) and a solo film for the MCU's Thor: Love and Thunder (July 6). On the other hand, if you're more into the DC Extended Universe, you'll need to wait until July 25 for Aquaman (starring Jason Momoa), and also take in Ant-Man and the Wasp and Justice League, which will begin filming next month. Note that all release dates are subject to change. June 1. The Man Who Knew Infinity. A biographical look at mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (Ajay Devgn), who spent much of his life in India and was a friend of poet and author Rabindranath Tagore. The movie is directed by Ram Gopal Varma, and it was co-written by the director's brother Rohit and his frequent collaborator Shubha Khote.

Arsenic and Old Lace. The movie is based on the classic murder-mystery play of the same name, which was written by Joseph Kesselring and Albert Hackett in 1943, with the film adaptation of the same name starring Cary Grant and Margaret Wycherly (who both star here), produced in 1944. Fright Night (2017). Another one of those old-fashioned anthology horror films. In this version of the story, a trio of friends find themselves staying at a mysterious hotel while planning to go on a camping trip. The friends are killed by a masked figure who is actually a murderer.

Halloween II. Another sequel to the Halloween franchise, this time starring the original Michael Myers (played by the same actor again, Tommy Lee Wallace), who goes on a killing spree again when his babysitter (played by a different actress, Jamie Lee Curtis) returns to her hometown after a long absence. Directed by Rick Rosenthal.

What Netflix series have new seasons coming out?

The new season of Netflix's Stranger Things (or, more accurately, the return to an original form of this sci-fi/horror/thriller series which gained fame in the past year or so) is just around the corner. But what Netflix series do we have to look forward to at the moment? Let's have a look at what's on the horizon and the series that need a new season right now! Daredevil Season 3. I'm not going to lie: I haven't seen Daredevil yet. I don't mind - it's not really my thing - but I can see myself getting swept away by the new season of Marvel's flagship hero in the next few weeks. The show was fantastic in Season 1 (and then even better in Season 2), and so I'll definitely want to catch up as quickly as possible so I can binge the show in its entirety and relive my first season all over again.

Stranger Things Season 3. Yes, Stranger Things 2 was fantastic, but I still don't think I have ever experienced an experience that has been as perfect in its blend of horror and heart-thumping action as the new season of Stranger Things has. There is no doubt that it will be interesting to see how Season 3 will tie up all of the dangling strands left behind by Hawkins and his crew as they attempt to navigate the world (and one another) after Eleven disappeared. Stranger Things 3 will be out sometime in 2025, and hopefully I can catch up with it by then.

Godless. I was lucky enough to get the chance to go and watch Godless at last year's Sundance Film Festival (so you can probably imagine how I feel about it - and I thought it was terrific). I loved that there were two parts to the story, both of which could have gone a different way - and they both were. And that's a sign of a strong narrative. It also has a great cast, from Richard Jenkins as the father and the directorial duo of Nika Stone and Eric Lively, and Sam Elliott's character is a terrific turn.

Godless is set to hit Netflix in February 2025, and looks like a must-watch.
