What is the correct technique for gua sha?

Does gua sha actually work on face?

My wife told me to give it a try.

I haven't had a face lift before, but I'm willing to do it since I'm older now. The problem is I don't want to use a chemical, so I searched on the internet. I saw some testimonials of people using the gua sha, but nothing is concrete if it can be done to me or not. Can anyone give their opinions of the benefits and risk? I know there are risks from any type of procedure because I've heard stories of people losing their hair etc., but I would feel more comfortable to do it with a chemical. Does it really work? Are there any alternatives?

Yes you can and no you don't. Your wife is very lucky in that you have a very good wife who understands what you want so she does not do this to you. The risk, however, with any new procedure is the unknown. There are risks just as there are with the surgery.

No risk for you. It will most likely feel better. Look for people who do it and see the results. If you are scared that it will make you lose hair, try the treatments for a while and stop it when you get used to it. Once you stop it will take a bit of time before you experience a difference.

Well at least you will know what to do if you need a treatment again to remove the lines and wrinkles. There really is no risk for your wife doing the gua sha . You will most likely feel better. A lot of people do it every night on a regular basis because it seems to make a big difference. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks. Well, she said since I'm older and don't need any work, why not give it a try. I might not feel any different, but what is the harm. If it helps to relieve stress, it's still worth a try.

My wife asked me about this and now she's asking my opinion. She said she does the "kung shu thing" all the time. She'll ask me sometimes to pull out my hair and then she'll put on the gloves. I think I was wondering the same thing after I read this thread. She said it's all right to me, but I'd appreciate hearing any feedback from others.

How often should you gua sha your face?

You're probably asking yourself this question right now, Should I do it more than once a day?

Or maybe I should gua sha at night too?

While you might find answers to that question in the online gung-fu manuals, or just by asking an old grandpa like me, I don't think there is really a right answer. The truth is, doing gua sha is one of those workouts that are a little bit like your meditation. What counts as a good session of it depends on you.

One thing to bear in mind is that in order to gua sha, it helps to have access to a large, flat surface. So if you are just starting out, this might mean taking a walk outside or even using a piece of plastic from a take-away.

However, once you have learnt to do it correctly and regularly, then you'll be able to gua sha at home using your favourite bathroom mat, or wherever you have the best conditions. What's gua sha? Gua sha is a form of skin massage that, while it can be relaxing at the same time, is also something that gives you instant results. To learn how to do it right, and reap the benefits, you need to understand three things: The Gua sha method. The why of it. How to do it correctly. When it comes to the why, gua sha has been shown to improve circulation, improve lymphatic drainage, improve the functioning of the thyroid, fight against stress, as well as improve and tighten the skin. Why not? This technique is pretty much for anyone to benefit from, regardless of what part of the body they want to gua sha. However, the following areas can best worked on with gua sha: Chest. Neck. Arms. Legs. Feet. Shoulders. But before you start, you should also know how to perform this technique right, and you need to be aware of three things. To begin with, you'll need to get a mat. They come in all sizes and can be found at any local martial arts centre or health shop.

What should I put on my face before using gua sha?

Gua sha is said to reduce fine lines around the eyes and mouth as well as improve overall complexion.

It has been said that gua sha stimulates and strengthens connective tissue such as the dermis, so I want to use it before using a facial mask.

The ingredients should not react or irritate the skin. I do not like to put anything on my face that reacts with it, because it leaves my skin feeling itchy. What should I use instead of an ingredient which might irritate my skin?

My husband and I both use Gual-Sha when applying some serums and lotions (I like the stuff on the face more than my husband though). We just apply the "skin friendly" product without worrying about whether it will react or not. Just be careful that the product you are using does not contain oils or alcohols as well, as those ingredients would possibly irritate the skin, potentially causing you to remove it. As long as the product feels moisturizing/softening, that's what you want.
