How do I enable SOCKS5 proxy?

How do I use SOCKS5 proxy on my browser?

I have setup Ubuntu 12.

04 on my raspberry pi 2 as a proxy to access web sites on the internet. The proxy is connected to my home network via ethernet port. I have not been able to figure out how to get my browser, such as chromium or firefox, to work with the SOCKS5 proxy. I have tried to add the following lines to the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.list file:

I have not been able to get any of the browsers (notably Chromium) to use the SOCKS proxy for internet access. When I try to use the web proxy in Chromium the browser simply tells me that it cannot connect to the proxy server.

It looks like I have two options on my router, the http one for the regular internet connection, and the VNC one for the vpn connection. There are two other options on my computer, SOCKS for the vpn and HTTP for regular internet. But these dont work either.

The main idea is that I should be able to use both the internet and the vpn at the same time without needing to stop the vpn. Any ideas? I can connect to the vpn (and my desktop and home network) fine using IPTABLES. That is not very helpful. Can you elaborate please? Could you provide information about the VPN connection method, what you did and what the results were? If you don't know what we are trying to achieve, it's impossible to help.
