Shares of Netflix were up more than 8 percent in early trading after the company announced the news.

Ok, I have a small apartment in a rural area.

It has a wired ethernet connection to the internet, but I also have a wireless network that is connected to a netgear wg311v3 wireless router. If I had to choose a device to use for Netflix, which would it be?

I was thinking that a wireless N router would be ok, but I am wondering if it would better to get a wired router for the netflix, or if I would better off just using my wireless one for other purposes. I have a wired connection, but if I wanted to stream netflix with my tablet on my lap, and my laptop is plugged in on my desk, which one would I use for the connection? And why would I want to stream netflix from my laptop instead of from my tablet? If you are using an N router, that will be plenty fast enough for streaming Netflix. If your router doesn't support N, then it is not the best way to do streaming.

As for your question about using one device for Netflix streaming and another for other purposes, this is where it gets a little trickier. With a wired connection, your tablet would use the wireless access point (WAP) for the connection, while your laptop would use the wired ethernet port on the WAP. With a wireless connection, that will not work unless both devices are on the same network. Since they are not, you will need to make sure both devices are set to the same wireless network.

Since you have a wired connection, you can make the cable from your tablet to your laptop by putting a switch (or just having an extra cable) between your laptop and the WAP. Then when you use the laptop to stream to your tablet, you will be connected to the WAP wirelessly.

Since you have a wireless router, there is no need to plug the cable into it. Instead, you can just plug both devices into the router and stream the video directly to them.

Thanks for all the input! I think I will have a wired router and plug my laptop directly into it and use the wireless for the tablet. I will be using my laptop to stream from a different device as well, but I don't have that information yet.
