Who is Gia Sandhu on Heartland?

Gia Sandhu was born in Toronto and raised in Calgary.

In her youth, Gia studied classical ballet, tap, jazz and tap-dance. She also took modern dance classes, played piano and wrote songs.

I love dancing and music. I think it is very important for kids to be exposed to these things because they are so good for you! At the age of five, Gia decided to be a professional ballet dancer. The year was 1984. The following year she became a member of the National Ballet of Canada. From 1986 to 1994, she danced all over the world. She even starred in several films and TV shows.

Gia moved to Los Angeles and worked with the famous dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov and Mikhail Baryshnikov's daughter Ekaterina. It was Gia who taught the young girl how to become a ballet dancer. She was very close to Ekaterina and she says: I am grateful to have been able to give Ekaterina such a valuable life lesson. I've learned a lot from Ekaterina. She taught me to work hard, be disciplined, never give up and have confidence in myself.

In 2024, Gia returned to Canada and since then, she has been based in Calgary. She is now teaching at the Calgary Academy of Dance and performing with the Calgary Opera. Gia and her husband David are parents of two children, a son, who is now 14 years old, and a daughter, who is now nine years old.

Gia continues to live in Calgary and works with the Calgary Opera. Her passion is ballet and she is still dancing when she is not working with the Calgary Opera.

How is Gia Sandhu on Heartland? Gia has become a Heartland favourite since she first appeared on Heartland in 2024. She returns again this year and this time she will be dancing the role of Mabel in the show called Dancing in the Rain.

Gia is also very much in demand as a speaker. She has given talks to a number of groups including the Calgary Symphony Orchestra. Gia's passion for ballet and music has inspired many people. She shares her success story with Heartland listeners.
