Who is Amanda to Sarek?
Amanda is Sarek's first wife.
She's a Klingon, who is very important to Sarek. We'll see in this episode how they met.
What are the chances that the Enterprise will be able to beam down to that planet? I have no idea. I think the transporter just breaks down when it comes to moving Klingons from one planet to another.
We can't say for sure whether they're going to be able to do that. The only thing we know for sure is that when they do, we'll meet some of the characters that played key roles in Sarek's life. So what's really cool about this episode is that we're not just meeting these characters again; we're seeing them at a very specific point in their lives. That's what makes this episode so exciting.
How did Amanda get to be the one to give Sarek's son to Kirk? Well, we don't know that yet. All we know is that she's very important to Sarek. There's a line that's said to Kirk at the end of the episode, and we don't know exactly what that line means.
What happens in this episode is we'll discover why she's so important to him. Can you tease us a bit more about Sarek? You'll learn more about him in this episode. In this episode, we see him as a man who loves his son, but has also been through some dark times. And he's seen the worst parts of himself.
Sarek and Amanda have a romance story between the two of them, which is kind of the beginning of that. Can you tease anything about that relationship? You'll get to see the beginning of that. You'll see that they have a special relationship. I think we're going to see how that affects their entire relationship going forward.
Aidan Turner and Sarek in "Divergence." If you could describe Sarek in one word, what would it be? (Laughs). That's an interesting question. One word? Brave. Sarek is a man who chooses to be a warrior. He's a man who wants to make a difference in the world.
Did Spock's dad love his mom?
One of the biggest mysteries in Star Trek is why Captain Spock's dad never got a mention.
Is he just the Spock character? Did he leave Starfleet and die in peace? How come his dad isn't mentioned? While there are multiple threads on this particular mystery that have been speculated about, but never answered, we here at TrekMovie hope to give you an insight into how we think it all could have played out. I'm told we're not doing a new episode of the series for quite a while, and so I thought I'd start my trek-cation by tackling one of my favourite subjects - Spock's dad. Here's a brief recap of some of what we're going to be looking at: In ST:TMP, Spock refers to his dad as father. This could mean many things. In some of the novelizations and in-universe novels, it's clear that the word father is used as an affectionate term for his father, even though Spock hasn't had contact with him for quite some time. Also, in TOS, the word father was never used to describe Kirk (although McCoy uses it when referring to himself), only Spock. In both cases, it seems as if the writers were aware that in terms of Trek canon, the word father isn't appropriate. But for some reason, they still chose to use it.
Then in ST:TMP, Kirk describes Spock as the son of human & Vulcan parents. This was a major shift from what had been previously said in TOS. Previously, Kirk had described Spock as half human, half Vulcan. It was only in ST:TMP that we learned more about Spock's parents and their culture and background. However, because of a line in the script that was cut for TOS but included in the TOS novelization, it seemed that the writers wanted to make it clear that Spock's family was still mixed. In the cut line, Kirk tells Spock, The other side of your family, you have no memory of.
How many wives did Sarek have?
What is your problem, Kirk?
How many kids did Sarek have? I have to know. A mother's instinct.
Why didn't Pike come to visit? To see his grandkids? I think Sarek was proud. Does it really matter? Yes. It really matters.
Because I don't want to spend my life with a guy who won't help you out on something so simple as this. I'm not trying to prove myself to you! Yes, you are. You're worried that if you keep me in the dark about my history then it will show.
I can only trust what you tell me. That's not going to do me much good. Well, you're going to have to trust me on this. And I mean 'trusting' both senses of the word.
I've spent my whole life keeping secrets. Trust me, I'll hold up my end of the bargain.
Why did Sarek take you away? So that the Romulans wouldn't have access to you. He didn't think he could trust them. You can't. I learned that.
Then why do you? Because I'm in love with you. I have been since the first time I saw you.
You make that sound like it's reason enough. Look, I know we've only known each other for a few months but I know when someone likes me and when someone loves me. What, all this crap about love and sex isn't good enough for you? All this crap about trust is. You had no right to keep this from me.
But I wanted you to see the truth. But the truth is I love you, too. Oh, come on. It wasn't one week after first meeting me that you were ready to jump my bones.
But not enough to share things like this with me.
