Why is my VPN not working on Google?

I've spent a few days trying to get my VPN to work on Google. I'm on a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 and I've tried using the OpenVPN plugin, the Mobile Hotspot connection, the built in VPN and even tried using the native IPSec client. I've tried connecting to both the Google's open WiFi and the T-Mobile's 3G network. I've even tried connecting with my laptop at a different location.

Why is it that none of them seem to work? I'm wondering if anyone else has had any luck getting their VPN to work on their Android device when connected to Google's open WiFi or the T-Mobile's 3G network. It wasn't until November that I realized the SIM card was the only thing I had in my bag when I left the house. In fact, I thought I'd lost it after work the first day of the month and found it in my back pocket. My next phone (iPhone SE) died, and the last time I had service was when I switched over to the SIM, and I was going through some serious data issues so I went back to the SIM and used it until my new iPhone SE came in the mail.

I started having serious data issues again and decided to switch to an Android phone so I moved to the Galaxy Note 4. On November 20, I activated the T-Mobile SIM and used it as a hotspot for my iPad Pro until the end of the year. I ended up switching to an iPhone SE on December 12 and I still had the SIM card in my pocket.

On January 6, I got a call from T-Mobile saying I was eligible for a trade in and wanted to see if I could trade it in for a new phone. I said I didn't have a phone yet so they told me they could issue me a SIM card and I'd have to be on their network to activate it. At this point, I had no idea I still had the SIM in my pocket. I told them I'd get back to them.

For your specific VPN, we've updated the VPN apps section of the Android App Directory so that NordVPN is no longer listed. We removed the VPN app because it did not meet our new review requirements.

When we remove an app, it is not deleted. It is still available to be re-installed. That's why you're seeing a message saying Install this app? when you visit the App Store on your Android phone or tablet.

Why isn't NordVPN working on Chrome?

We've checked the Chrome extension code of all the most popular VPN's and seen all sorts of odd behavior.

On testing more VPNs the truth of the matter is quite a bit different: There is no such thing as a perfect VPN client. To be fair the ones that work most effectively usually offer both a proxy and VPN server in a single package. However the code in the Chrome extension is a poorly executed mess which means the majority of VPN extensions are actually just using this insecure proxy approach.

Can you recommend another VPN? The answer here really depends on your needs. Are you using a Chromebook? If so try NordVPN's workaround or use an operating system that works natively with VPN clients like Linux or Mac OS X.
