Do I need Antivirus if I have a VPN?

Do I need Antivirus if I have a VPN?

Antivirus is a very important part of your security, and for good reason.

Antivirus software protects your computer against viruses and other malicious software, and it can also help you to stop malware from getting into your computer in the first place. But with so much malware around, does it really make sense to install antivirus software? The answer is that it depends on your VPN settings, and how secure your VPN connection is.

So, does your VPN have Antivirus? For most people, having a VPN is a good security measure. By adding a layer of security between you and the internet, you are able to hide your IP address and make it more difficult for hackers and snoops to find out where you are. This means that, if your VPN is set up correctly, you won't be able to see or log into your email, browsing history or other personal information. It also makes it harder for cybercriminals to identify and steal your personal data.

But because your VPN will protect you, and not just your computer, you need to make sure that your VPN is set up correctly. If you're connecting to a server that doesn't have a lot of security features, you could be leaving yourself open to attacks. So before you start using your VPN, make sure that your connection is secure, and you're not putting yourself at risk.

The Antivirus part of your security. If your VPN is a reliable one, you won't need to worry about malware, as your computer should be safe. But there is another way to stop malware getting into your computer. For example, if your VPN is set up to use a server in the USA, you'll be using an American server, which will make it more difficult for hackers to attack your computer. Your VPN will still protect you from malware, but it won't be able to steal your personal information. If you want to get rid of malware and keep your personal information private, you need to turn off your VPN.

But, if you do want to use your VPN, you need to make sure that it's set up correctly.

Is Surfshark Antivirus better than Norton?

My son is wanting to get a Norton product.

I looked at the Norton Security 2025 and was not impressed, so I went on a Google search for antivirus for his Apple MacBook that was as good as Norton without all of the crapware that is usually with Norton. When I googled "Best Anti Virus for Macbook" I saw the surfshark anti-virus as being one of the top rated. But after looking around on the internet more, I am getting conflicting info. Should I stick with Surfshark or go back to Norton? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Surfshark Antivirus better than Norton? Thanks for the quick reply! I did look into it. I am not sure how good it is but it is free and I am not sure if Norton is free for me. My mom has their computer and I have her Macbook. So I can just do the same for both of us.

But I was wondering if Surfshark might better for a little kid? As always, thanks for helping us out. Originally Posted by NoodleBoy. I don't think a free virus scanner would be a bad thing to give him, but I would recommend that he get a good book on Mac OS X and read it first, in order to understand how to keep the computer clean.

Do I need McAfee if I have Surfshark?

McAfee does not appear to have anything for Firefox, does it provide some protection for your home network on the internet?

For surfshark, I mean, that program allows you to surf the internet from your home. As you know we can use proxy to hide our identity but its really expensive. With a software like Surfshark we can surf safely with no one seeing our IP address and thus exposing our details. As an end user should we be downloading a McAfee because it only provides security on the web (as what I have read so far from the thread above). The software provided by Surfshark does not provide security on my home PC's?
No and yes. From what I can find SurfShark doesn't block ads or hijack anything. As for your home system, well that's something else entirely. All the McAfee software does is monitor your browser and protect you if someone actually tries to do bad things to you. The Surfshark software you download is very low bandwidth and shouldn't pose any threat to your regular work system. It will allow you to use your work system on home without getting caught. Now if you're looking to surf the WWW that's a different story and you might run into trouble. But that's a whole other issue. I guess you'll find out when you get that far.

I want to use an Anti-virus or an Anti-malware, I have a net connection at home which will access the internet but is a "home network" I am using my laptop and a Desktop computer for both of them. Is it possible to block viruses or malware on my laptop and to protect my desktop pc. Am I better off with McAfee or should I just stay away from these viruses and malware with a decent antivirus system.

If you don't need to log on to the Internet from your home network, then yes. For example, you could simply make the browser that connects to the home network run under Windows Vista's User Account Control (UAC) -- the "Windows Vista Secure IT admin mode", which requires full control before an application will run. UAC, though, would block Windows Explorer if it wanted to.
