Why can't I watch Amazon Prime on my TV?
You may have heard about a new feature of the Amazon Prime Instant Video service that lets you stream Amazon Prime shows and movies on your TV.
While some are pleased with this, others have come to our attention asking why they can't access the service on their television. The short answer is that it's not currently supported on many televisions. However, it can be.
The Amazon Prime Instant Video service is a streaming video service that includes over 1000 movies and TV shows. Unlike a cable subscription or a network subscription, your video content is accessible on multiple devices, including the Roku, Kindle Fire, Xbox One, Android devices, Nintendo DS and more.
As you probably know, Amazon offers a variety of devices and devices to purchase directly from the website, but not all devices support Prime Instant Video. We're happy to share that in addition to Apple and Roku, Sony and Vizio TVs, as well as numerous manufacturers of Blu-ray players and receivers, support Prime Instant Video. It should be noted, though, that as of right now, Amazon has not released any firmware updates for these products to include support for the service.
So, if you own a Vizio, Sony, or other device that doesn't support Prime Instant Video, don't fret. With a little bit of work, you can enjoy your Prime Instant Video content on your TV screen.
How do I get my TV to support Amazon Prime Instant Video? If you already own a Sony or Vizio TV or other device that doesn't support the service, there's little you need to do to get the TV to recognize and respond to the service. You can simply plug the device into the power source of the TV, connect it to the Internet, download an app, and off you go.
For the non-Sony and non-Vizio owners out there, here are some steps you can take to get your TV to recognize and use Amazon Prime Instant Video. Connect the Sony or Vizio TV to the internet. If the TV has Wi-Fi capabilities, chances are it has already connected to the Internet through a router or modem. Alternatively, you can connect it to a network or router that supports the Internet connection. Connect the Amazon app on your iOS or Android device to the same network or router as the TV. Is there a guide available that tells me what free services will provide me a solution?
First and foremost, there are several platforms that allow you to access Amazon Prime content from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, not to mention any television. There's even an app for your SmartWatch, Kindle Fire tablet or Echo. Each comes with its own app-specific controls but can also use the universal Amazon App which is available in mobile and desktop versions. The Amazon mobile app, however, was updated on October 1st, 2025, adding support for Apple TV with the new Watch option.
The Amazon Streaming app was also updated to integrate with the TV app and the streaming website, allowing control of video and shopping options. However, the app does not yet allow you to set up a specific channel to watch. While it won't surprise you that all of these are part of your Prime membership, some of them offer a free streaming add-on that will be removed by your current service.
To get everything working you need to have these devices on your home network and have an account on the TV. There is no extra cost for the first three shows per week on Prime. You will need to choose an Amazon Video or Netflix plan that's cheaper than you have now, and add the cost of a TV subscription to your current plan. These prices are dependent on the location of your home and the number of family members or guests you want included on the plan.
On the Netflix side, they offer unlimited streaming to more than 50 countries outside the United States (currently it is limited to the US, Canada, Latin America, India and the UK). However, their plans can change at any time (as they did just last week). Pricing is based on your Internet speed and the amount of HD content you access.99 respectively.99/GB.99 per month is just an overpriced DVD service.
Let's start with how to find and set up the applications on all your devices.
How do you pay to rent a movie on Amazon Prime app?
I don't have an Amazon Prime account, but I still have an Amazon Prime app on my phone.
How do I pay to rent a movie with the app? The app says to "rent by credit card or bank transfer" and that's where I'm confused.
I haven't heard of a bank transfer being used for anything other than paying for an Amazon Prime subscription. If you have a credit card on file, it will automatically use that for purchasing. I just tried it myself, it worked fine.
The way you actually pay is by entering your credit card information and choosing your shipping destination. After that, the app will prompt you for the movie you want to rent. It's that prompt that is confusing.
You will be asked to pay with a card on file for your Amazon Prime subscription, or you can add a new card. If you enter a new card, you will be given the option to select a different shipping destination, so you can select one of your own.
I did just what you said and then it asked me for the amount. The problem is that I don't see how to pay. I don't see anywhere to enter a credit card or anything like that. Where is that supposed to be?
Do you have your card saved on file? Then just hit the card icon and you should see the options to either pay by credit card or to add a new card.
