Is Surfshark better than ExpressVPN?

Is Surfshark faster than NordVPN?

We recently released a new version of Surfshark, with some new features, like ability to use VPN with no ads. The VPN can be used by default and it can be disabled. This means Surfshark might be faster than NordVPN. If so, why? If not, which is faster? I will outline the differences in this article. Lets get to it.

NordVPN paid and free accounts. Surfshark is free and supports both paid and free accounts. In case of NordVPN, you have to pay for a subscription and there are different plans depending on how much time you want to use it for. To find out more about NordVPN, click here.

Summary. Surfshark has: more servers than NordVPN. Faster speed. No config file to mess with. Dark mode and tabbed interface. (updated 17/09/2019). Speed. Surfshark has 0-7999 IPs per server and 16-6400 IPs in total. So, if you want something fast in terms of speed, this is for you. NordVPN has 0-999 IPs per server and 6-2999 IPs in total. So, a NordVPN server would be slower than Surfshark. However, if you use NordVPN, you won't have to worry about ads. Many users of Surfshark are doing so because they use VPNs for surfing and maybe torrenting. If that's not your case, NordVPN might be a better fit.

Speed Test. I ran a speed test using my phone. I connected to VPN and used Surfshark for testing. The test was run using Speedy. According to Speedy, Surfshark was about 7 times faster than NordVPN. I can use my VPN without ads while browsing the internet, which is very convenient for me.

Server Count. NordVPN has 122 servers, while Surfshark has 25. However, as you can see in the speed test, Surfshark actually has more servers. This might because of the feature I mentioned above, where you can use VPN without ads.

Is Surfshark better than NordVPN?

A VPN is still a worthwhile comparison since it's quite easy to use a VPN from the outset. You could literally go in the browser and set everything up. Nominet is also much less technical than a VPN, you don't need to migrate data anywhere.

A year ago I used SurfShark, and it was a good VPN. Flat out broke, but was as value for money as any VPN out there, but no more. More of a website with a back-end from China and 100 different IPs.

NordVPN came too, and it has become one of my favourites. It has potential, but it does a lot of stuff I don't need. I spent my entire year with this VPN, and my recommendation was somewhere in the middle - You get the VPN for free, but not 100% performance or no logging at all.

A year later, and SurfShark is back. Don't see too many changes or new checks, but it's definitely still a VPN that offers great value for money. I have used NordVPN but only across for a couple of weeks.

When you compare their service they both cost around 10/year which is less than half of what NordVPN cost to start with. Detailed SurfShark Review. SurfShark came about over a year ago (I remember them popping up on Twitter a long time ago). It's the same goal that NordVPN has currently (to us abolish logging and provide 100% guaranteed anonymity) with a full web interface that you can fire it up with and set everything up with just a couple of clicks.

That's really what makes SurfShark a full featured VPN. At the core it is a web-based service that doesn't spy on you at all; it doesn't log your activity and when you are using it for Tor, they don't even log your IP address.

So if you are over worry with anything at the moment, make sure you settle it. But if you don't, it's worth a look. Pipe dream for a VPN provider by me, but you could get occasionally almost 100% anonymity in my review.
