How to create a VPN hotspot?

I am currently using an Android device to create a VPN hotspot (Android 2.3.5). I have done this before, but I don't remember how I did it.

I am wondering if someone can help me out with the following: Is it possible to do this with an Android device? If so, how can I go about doing this? Is this more complicated than it should be? How do I Share my VPN with my Android hotspot?

I have an Amazon VPN Fire tablet, which is connected to my computer via the WiFi.

However, I have also purchased a new Huawei modem/hotspot that uses the 4G network. I would like to use the VPN to connect the hotspot, but I am unsure how to do this. I am sure this is very easy, but I cannot find the answer anywhere.

The VPN has a "Connect to VPN" button on it's icon, however when I click it, the popup shows a list of devices connected to the VPN, and when I click on "VPN for Android", it says it cannot find the device. The VPN does show in "Network and sharing center" under my Windows computer, but I don't know if it will work with the android hotspot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1 Answer.
You have 2 ways: You can setup your tablet as a Wi-Fi Hotspot. This can then be used by other devices to connect to your Wi-Fi network and use the hotspot as a VPN gateway. You can setup your Tablet as a Wi-Fi hotspot here: How do I set up a Wi-Fi Hotspot on my Amazon Fire HD Tablet?

Another way is to setup the modem as a modem, but not connect to the internet via it. Your device can then still connect to the hotspot to use the Internet through the hotspot, and you can then connect to the VPN on the hotspot.

If you use a USB Modem, you might want to take a look at the Huawei Y1 which can also act as a modem. Thanks for the reply. I am trying to set up the hotspot as a hotspot, so that I can use the hotspot as a VPN gateway.

@Michael - The way the Hotspot works on the Amazon Tablet is that it appears as a wireless network. You can click on the WiFi logo in the top right corner of the home screen and select "Create New Wi-Fi Network" - this will create a Wi-Fi hotspot on your tablet that will allow other devices to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Can you use VPN with mobile hotspot?

I use both my own mobile hotspot and a VPN on my device.

I use the VPN for when I'm on public Wi-Fi (at the airport, Starbucks, etc.) or while traveling. For my own device, I use the VPN for when I'm on a public Wi-Fi network at work or when I'm home and don't want to connect to my own hotspot. The reason for using the VPN is that I'm concerned about being connected to any of the numerous IP addresses on public Wi-Fi networks at my workplace and also in various places while traveling. If I connect to a VPN while I'm on a public Wi-Fi network, will my device continue to connect to the hotspot? If so, will the hotspot continue to work even if my device connects to a VPN?

So, if I connect to a VPN on my own device, does that mean that my device connects to my own hotspot as well as the VPN? I use the VPN for when I'm on public Wi-Fi (at the airport, Starbucks, etc. Yes, your device would continue to use the VPN on your device when you connect to a VPN. You can turn off the VPN on your device when you are done.

Also, if you are connecting to a network that uses Windows Hello, the Windows Hello will be configured for the credentials of the VPN connection and not the mobile hotspot.
