Is there a Google location sharing app?
I work in finance and live in a very expensive town in London.
My boss keeps telling me that the other traders are coming in from places like London Bridge and Belsize Park and getting a much better deal. I know he's full of it, but it would be interesting to find out whether this is true. Is there a Google App or Android app that records your location every so often and tells you what's going on near you? I don't want to have to get Google Play for my phone just to find out what's going on.
In case you are using Google Maps (or similar), check the "Locate me" setting. This will start a timer and every 24 hours (for free) or every 12 hours (paid) Google will try to locate you, showing your current position.
You can also change it for shorter or longer periods. But make sure to disable the feature in case Google doesn't find you, as it will send a "failed-to-locate" notification to your email address.
Also, check out the free version of Locate Me here. Here is the link for Google Play Services: There's an unofficial app for Google Now called "Google Locator".
Can Google Maps show someone's location?
The Google Maps app has gained a handy new tool: a "My Location" button that enables an iPhone or iPad owner to track their movement, as spotted by iLounge.
The service isn't new, and is available on iOS 3.0 and later devices.
To use this tool, launch the Google Maps app, go into My Location, and choose an option. When you tap My Location, you'll see your current location and recent location. Tap the arrow next to the current location to see the last three locations and where you've been recently, and tap the arrow next to the last three locations to see your most recent 10 locations. A map of your travels is then displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
It's unclear how long this option will be available, but AppleInsider reports that it's expected to stay on iPhones and iPads going forward. The "My Location" tool will likely work the same way on other iOS devices.
For those who wish to share their location data with a friend, you can also do this by sending a tweet with #MyLocation and sharing a link to the map with an iMessage.
How do I track a family member on Google Maps?
I'm trying to make a journey planner app where I track a whole family over time.
The plan would be that once the first parent is scheduled to leave, the next parent can view an icon on their Google Map and then the other icons are added to it in the order the dates are set. And then as they begin to plan their own trips, the dates are updated for each parent, as well as the times of arrival and departure. How can I set this up, or do I need a separate trip tracker?
Since Google does not have direct API access to all family members' locations. It is best to do it manually. What you can do is create a Trip Planner app and add your family members (and their travel details), this is basically a "Trip Planner" for your family. But you will have to add this manually for all people so that they can share their places via a link/email.
As a workaround, what I do in my personal trip tracker tool "My Trip Tracker" is using iGoogle service which allows you to share google map. It has a functionality to share location as well.
