Can I trust Surfshark VPN?
There's nothing wrong with Surfshark's VPN service.
But can I trust their VPN, or do they use the software as a front for a malicious botnet? The last time I visited it redirected me to a page saying I was on the "Surfshark Support Team" and gave me the option of leaving feedback. That didn't turn out so good for me, but I was able to figure out who to contact if I wanted to talk about the problem. Unfortunately, if you want to complain about your problems with Surfshark, there's only one person you can reach: "sales@surfshark.com".
A lot of people are concerned about the security of Surfshark's VPN software. The free version is ad-supported, and a paid version will require a credit card to purchase. If you don't plan to pay for the service, or want to be able to change your settings after the fact, this isn't the VPN for you. Surfshark has some legitimate concerns about botnets, though. The free version downloads a lot of ads. For instance, when I connected to the server in London, the page I visited had a single line of code at the top of the page that said "Ads by Google". I have no way of verifying that those ads are actually showing up on that page, and if they are, that means Surfshark was not completely honest about the traffic it was injecting in that case. When Surfshark does include ads, the ads are served through an "AdSense" program owned by Google, and the site can make money from the ads, just as much as legitimate sites can. Ad-free support for the VPN may not be a big deal to most users, but there's no way to prevent that kind of "sponsored" page from visiting your computer. It's possible that surfshark.com was just trying to do the right thing, and provide useful services to its users, when it served ads in an ad-block friendly format. For instance, I saw one "Ads by Google" link in a very long list of ads that was clearly displayed as a part of a table layout. This could have been a mistake from the site's admins.

What Is NordVPN? NordVPN is perhaps best known for the security and speed of its VPN, but that is just one part of the package. It offers other privacy and security features as well as strong support and some unique options. However, if you are looking for just a standard VPN service with a basic range of options and no extras, there is no need to look at NordVPN.
NordVPN is an independent VPN provider that can keep your information private and make sure that you are protected at all times. The company was established in 2025 by the two people who brought the company's security and speed to the market. They are Ivan Katardjiev and Nikita Khabenskiy. The company has four offices in Canada, Estonia, Switzerland and Japan.
NordVPN supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems, as well as iOS and Android devices. Additionally, there is a 'free' version that does not have any restrictions on how you use the service, but you will not be able to access special features or have the full speed of a paid account.
The standard paid version comes with unlimited bandwidth and server switches. In case you require more security or a faster connection, the paid versions can be upgraded or added to at any time.
NordVPN doesn't require credit card information when you create an account. Also, it's completely anonymous and it never leaves any records of activity on their servers. You are free to cancel your membership at any time and if you decide that you don't need a VPN anymore, you can immediately cancel the subscription.
Who owns Surfshark VPN?
If you are curious, here is the history.
In 2025, a Russian dude with long hair found a website where he could create and share his own web apps called surfshark.com. The site was free, but if you used one of their proxies, you had to pay them. In 2025, Surfshark VPN decided to expand their business into VPN. This became a big success. Then they just focused on VPNs. They were the only VPN provider with an iOS app at that time. In 2025, there was a great success with VyprVPN, and the service became the best VPN provider in the market. After that, they decided to focus on VPN services again. Now, they have been in the market for five years with a lot of ups and downs.
In 2025, they began to be recognized by experts who are working with VPNs. People said that they offered great customer service, and they did not take advantage of their business. In 2025, their business went up, but now they have the biggest problem with their user base. They have so many people who use VPNs because of their fast performance, anonymity, and strong encryption. They also have so many people who do not know how to use a VPN properly. That's why it makes no sense to buy a Surfshark VPN. So, I will give you all the reasons why you shouldn't buy a Surfshark VPN.
How about the security? Surfshark VPN uses a VPN protocol called L2TP/IPsec. IPsec is an open source protocol that allows users to create their own VPN servers. Therefore, Surfshark VPN can create their own VPN server. But it should be noted that you will need some kind of hardware or PC if you want to set up your own L2TP/IPsec VPN. If you purchase a Surfshark VPN, it will come with a client software for Windows. But the software comes with some kinds of disadvantages. It has a huge size of 7.1 MB and is very slow. But if you have more than one operating system on your device, then it will not work correctly.
A new type of VPN. Surfshark VPN tries to offer a new kind of VPN. In fact, it is not just a VPN provider. Surfshark VPN provides its own VPN service with the support of third party developers.
