How to bypass lightspeed on school Chromebook?

How to unblock everything on a school Chromebook work in 2024?

Last modified: 3 May 2025 17:40 (UTC). In May 2025 I received a new Chromebook from the school (in 2025 it was my birthday present, in fact). This time the school sent me their Chromebook as well: a Samsung Series 550c.

For a few days it worked flawlessly, but later on, the Chromebook became extremely slow. The speed fluctuated between 100% and 15%, mostly in between. In April I found that it has some connectivity problems as well, but the solution is out of scope of this article.

Some of you might have noticed that Chrome OS was pretty bad on the first Chromebook of your experience and are now looking for an explanation. Unfortunately Google's documentation lacks information that I can find for how to do basic troubleshooting when the performance of your device plummets. There are just a few general tips here, but they do not explain much beyond that. Some of these methods have also been mentioned in other posts and can only give you partial solutions.

This article is meant to complement other posts with technical information, which were already quite helpful and comprehensive. It is intended for any person looking for a solution on the internet, while skipping all the introductory texts and tutorials.

This text assumes that you already have your own Chromebook, but want to extend it with some useful tools and utilities so you can unblock everything or at least some things. I assume that you already set up your Gmail account and created Google accounts (you can skip some or even all these steps if you follow a different path of installation, which you probably already have done, since you got your first one at your local library). If you have no idea what I am talking about, feel free to use this video for a more advanced instruction:

A brief history about this Chromebook. Samsung sells the Samsung Series 550c to schools worldwide and you can get yours in the German schools as well. It cost just a few hundred euros per unit, depending on the region of sale, because the schools get them for cheap, but Samsung still sells the devices itself for about 1,600 euros, including the battery and the display. The device is still in its beta phase and we have to wait for updates to make it more stable. Unfortunately it is not a standard device by Google and not supported by their tools.

How to bypass lightspeed on school Chromebook?

We use chromebooks running chrome and the chromebook's are fairly basic.

Our school uses a school log in account that only allows web filtering (we don't get all the emails or anything, but we can access our school email)

We have been trying to find away to get around the light speed limit, but I have yet to find a way. Does anyone here know a work around? If not, can someone please point us in the right direction? Basically, I'm looking for a method where I can go directly to pages without it taking me to the login page. As of right now it is going through lightspeed because it is not directly getting to the school server.

What about if you have the computer set up with a different user account? What if you try logging in as the student's administrator? user4111Jul 2 '12 at 21:58. 1

I am not sure what you mean by "logged in as their administrator". There is a school administrator but she is not on duty at that hour. I really don't think this will be a school level solution. Perhaps somebody else here can come up with a better solution?

BabarJul 2 '12 at 22:34. @Babar - I understand there may be a solution at the school level. I just thought a fix may be possible at the student level since we've gone over this several times.

So I'm going to have to ask you to walk me through your specific scenario; without knowing exactly what you're doing, it's hard to debug what the problem might be.

How to bypass school filter?

Recently our school administration introduced a new policy which says that all students will have to prove their identity to take exams.

But they don't want to do any background checking before allowing them in the exam hall.

I am in the middle of the class with my colleague and we are so fed up of the policy, especially for the poor kids whose parents don't have documents to prove their identity. We have written a letter about this matter, but in vain. However, I have a plan, a big plan. I will use an online study and assignment tool to create several tests and send them to some other students in my class. But how to get around this system? Is there any way to bypass school filter without leaving any trace? Or do we really need to leave everything behind after using Study Notes?

Hello, your post is very interesting and full of doubts, you have a lot of questions, I would recommend you read the next lines. This question is already popular but I will try to make some summary in three steps.

1- If we talk about schools that work with paper exams, what does school have to do for you to take a test? It is already explained, in fact some schools that use online testing system may have the possibility to allow students to take a paper exam but the final approval is given by the principal of the school in the case that the paper exams are not approved in the exam hall. I do not know if this solution works for other countries, but in my country it's a fact that online exams are allowed by default in high school or college. So there is no excuse to not allowing them to take an exam.

2- Bypass school filter using Study Notes. You say, Or do we really need to leave everything behind after using Study Notes? The main purpose of Study Notes is to help students taking online tests and other online assignments from time to time, you do not need to use Study Notes on every homework task, just in time that you need to take an online exam. After each test you have to delete or hide your notes from your teachers. You can also save your notebooks, files, videos, files, etc. You can also share those files with other students via Study Notes.

How to get unblocked on school Chromebook?

Recently I had a very annoying problem with a school Chromebook and I didn't know how to fix it.

Now I have found a very helpful person here on Ask Different, but unfortunately I still don't know what to do in the case I am getting blocked by my school network for any reason.

For example, if you go to school (or even work), and connect to a wireless network, and then you run a scan for open networks, and most of them show up but suddenly your laptop won't connect to one of them. In that case, and that's only one of the examples, what can you do to fix the problem? Also, if someone knows how to disable some settings, or get around the fact that the wifi is completely blocked on the school network, even if we all know how to get around it, then that would be great as well! The issue I am having is that it might be that my friend who is helping me is getting blocked, but sometimes I am too. I just think they both are blocked at different times. If it is your friend who is helping me, please respond to this with your location, thank you!
I'd check out a few things before I tell you how to get yourself unblocked: Try and ping the blocked computer. If it succeeds, you're probably not being blocked by anti-virus program - anti-virus programs like to take over networking and other services, and blocking that will allow you to get through to their PC. You may have to install a network scanning program on your own PC, depending on how well you know what computers are connected to the network.

If the system seems to be unresponsive to ping, or appears to be running but is locked, the best thing you could do is plug in a spare monitor to a wired LAN port on the system and try and get access through the console, which may solve the problem. You can also try disabling your internet connection entirely to see if it resolves the issue (if your browser is still working then you can get your information from the internet), you may have to disable the connection completely in your browser settings first if you've no means of doing so over the console. One more thing you could try, and this doesn't require a spare monitor or even a network: download and install LittleSnitch (or LittleSnoop).
