If you use the @gmail.com address instead, then most email clients don't recognise that this is from a hotmail address, and instead of forwarding it or replying to it, they will usually be filed as spam and deleted.

When you use a gmail.com address as your email address, it's sent to their spam filter as if it was spam. When you use a hotmail.com address, it's delivered to the recipient. You will get the response, or not, depending on what they think of it.

It depends on the person receiving the email. Some will actually read the message, others will just delete it. I've never had someone ignore a message I sent them, but I've had others ignore a message sent to them. That does depend on the person though.
