What is TunnelBear? The service allows you to create secure, end-to-end encrypted, private links to access your favorite sites and services using a single click and our mobile apps. By using TunnelBear you can link your mobile device to the web pages you like without having to use a separate VPN or public WiFi network. We're still waiting on full access to the official iOS App Store to confirm whether it works on the iPhone, but if you manage to get it through there then we recommend giving it a go.

We've done extensive research into other VPNs, apps and protocols, and TunnelBear is the best combination of security, ease of use, free VPN, and cost-effectiveness of all the choices available to us. Security. We believe that privacy online should be affordable. TunnelBear is the only browser based VPN that is completely free - with no ads, no tracking, no logging, and no way for anyone to know you are using it.

This means that while you're browsing, you are protected by a modern VPN protocol that doesn't use a single server, leaving no way for anybody to track you online. Because TunnelBear is a VPN rather than a web proxy, it's able to create a truly anonymous connection from your device to the internet, enabling you to browse anonymously from any device without any restrictions on the kind of sites you can visit or the services you can use. As a result, TunnelBear is the most secure browser-based VPN available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and any other smartphone platform available today. How it Works. Unlike the other browser based VPNs, TunnelBear has no servers to set up. TunnelBear works by turning your mobile device into a router between you and the web, providing a secure VPN tunnel to a single IP address that only you can access.

How do I know if TunnelBear is working?

The easiest way to check if TunnelBear is working on your PC, is through the TunnelBear web app.

Once it loads, go to your web browser and type in and click on Run or Start Now.

Now the webapp itself will open and you will see if you can connect to the internet, by checking the status bar (the last four items in the top left of the window). If it says tunnelbear is not working click on Update. Once the update has completed, you will be able to browse websites and use tunnelbear for the rest of the day.

How do I make sure that the firewall is disabled? For Windows users, there is the possibility to disable the firewall at all, so you don't accidentally block any access to the Internet. On a Mac OSX, you can turn the firewall off like this: open the command line and run sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.tpc.wifiwatchdog.plist as explained here, and restart everything (or reboot).

Why won't TunnelBear let me log in?

I have a problem with TunnelBear's login process.

I keep getting the error: Error while logging in. The user name and/or password you entered is incorrect. If you've forgotten your password, please use our link below to reset it.

TunnelBear Web site Username or Password: Please enter your username or password and we'll get in touch with you. When I click "Forgot your password" I'm then taken to a page that looks like this: I've tried everything I can think of to get TunnelBear to log me in but nothing works. My password hasn't been changed or changed back since I last used TunnelBear, so I don't understand why TunnelBear won't let me log in. I've checked my "Account Information" settings and it's correct (I've used TunnelBear from other computers so I know the username and password are correct). I've tried using the "Forgot your password" link and getting the reset screen, but it just takes me back to the login page after I enter my username and password.

In my browser I go to and enter my password and username. It doesn't let me submit the form. I end up with a page similar to this:

It appears that it tries to access the user with the username . I have already been here for help before: TunnelBear log in issues. And the only suggestion I've seen for a fix was to delete ~/.tunnelbear/tunnel.conf.

I don't want to do this because I'm not sure if I'll be able to log in again without doing that. Any ideas on how to get TunnelBear to let me log in? Edit: I did the following to confirm that the username and password is correct. I went to and then typed in the username and password I use with TunnelBear. I also confirmed that I was logged into the account by going to the "my account" link and then viewing my account settings.

Edit 2: I ended up going to and finding the answer there.
