Is Chrome desktop free?

After years of asking, I recently heard a few people in the chrome channel saying that Chrome desktop is free. When I checked, after a few minutes, the website I have Chrome tab running on shows this: However, when I right click on it and click inspect element: It showed me this: But if you follow the link to download browser tools, it clearly shows that you are paying for it: Is it an oversight or a bug? The download page clearly says that it is free: Thanks! Yes. It's free now. They updated it earlier this year - before that it said, it was still in beta. I guess they figured: it's done enough stuff to be a production release.

Also, the desktop version was always free, it was just that the web version had been free for quite some time as well. There is no way to see the download page if you are offline. So if you were interested installing it, you'd have to make sure you are online. Or just wait for them to release the next Chrome version.

How do I open Chrome in desktop mode?

I can't seem to find the setting.

I've seen it before, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

On Windows 7 you just need to click the Chrome shortcut icon in the start menu and click the "Change how this shortcut starts" option. Then you can change the settings to desktop mode. It should look like this:

If you can't find the option then you might need to manually edit the shortcut.exe and then save the file. You might need to run as administrator to make this work.

How do I access Chrome desktop?

I have to access the Chrome desktop version and not the chrome mobile version.

I have set chrome as the default browser, but it only opens the mobile version when I type 'chrome://'. ? As the other answers stated, there's no way to access Chrome Desktop via the browser, but you can use an app called 'Chrome Remote Desktop'. You install it, then type chrome-remote-desktop:// into your URL bar to start up Chrome. Then you can just type in the URL bar again to close it.
