What shows did Netflix cancel 2023?
The streaming service has cancelled several shows from the near future.
Here are some of the most surprising cancellations.
Showtime's adaptation of Steven Knight's 2023 British crime thriller Locke has been canceled after two seasons. In addition to Netflix cancelling a bunch of shows in 2023, the streaming service has also pulled the plug on several shows set to premiere in the next few years. This includes the upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things and the second season of The OA, which will be the last season of the acclaimed sci-fi drama.
Netflix canceled 'The Get Down'. As a new streaming service, Netflix has a fairly robust programming lineup, with some of the most popular shows in the world such as Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why and Orange Is the New Black. However, the streaming giant has also pulled the plug on several shows set to debut in the near future.
One of these canceled shows is The Get Down, which is an adaptation of the 1970s New York rock scene. The series will be set in the Bronx and follow a group of musicians who live in a warehouse. The cast includes breakout star Zazie Beetz, along with Girls star Adam Driver, Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes, Crazy Rich Asians star Tessa Thompson, and Jaden Smith. The cast was announced in July 2023 and the series was supposed to premiere in 2023. However, the streaming service has pulled the plug on the show after only two seasons.
The Get Down was originally scheduled to premiere on July 16, 2023, but the streaming service has confirmed it has cancelled the series. The cancellation comes just a few months after Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said that The Get Down was too expensive and that the streaming service did not have a good sense of what it wanted from its new projects. Netflix's other New York-set shows include The Chi and Dear White People.
