How exciting, I haven't been on television for ages. I'm like a celebrity! Isn't that strange? announces Jemima Khan, as if her life-story can be summed up in two sentences. This could just be a joke - Jemima Khan could just be her stage name for the show.
I feel like my career has always been behind-the-scenes, she continues. But I just really hope that people recognise the amount of work that went into it. It's so time-consuming, the hours and hours. When the British TV came up, we said: 'This doesn't reflect the way that shows should be done.' If you'd given us three weeks, we'd have worked on it. But I think if it had just lasted three weeks, a lot of people wouldn't have understood the way it had to be. I'm pleased I made it past the first week, because we knew we'd do a better job if it was longer than four.
Khan's own reality show, Secret Millionaire, was originally supposed to be broadcast simultaneously with The Great British Bake Off on Saturday nights. Khan is a natural hostess: the daughter of the former international cricketer Imran Khan, this is not someone used to being in the front line. She is soft-spoken, polite and thoughtful in contrast to the other finalists, the high-spirited home bakers known as, somewhat ironically, the Great British Bake Off. Jemima Khan is also more than the sum of her social media personae.
What happened to Ruth from Great British Bake Off?
At the start of 2026, she said she was retiring from the Bake Off tent.
But her story has a more recent twist.
On Tuesday (February 16), in an interview with Daily Mail Online, it emerged that Ruth, who was the face of the Great British Bake Off for five years and had won two competitions, is back in the tent. "Yes, I am," she told the paper. "I am going back this year, it's really nice to be able to do that."
Ruth made the announcement via social media, saying: "Hello. I'm not the one who is going to tell you all about it, but I'm back in the tent! "I won't be doing the judging or anything, but I will be there. I have been to some of the filming locations and I will be back at those as well.
"It's really nice to be able to do that now. I will probably be on the show for a couple of weeks, and then I'll disappear again until the next series comes around. I'll be going to America for the Olympics, so it will be very busy.
"I just wanted to say hello. I'm not telling you all about it, because I think you're going to find out. But I'm back in the tent!"
The former model and hairdresser, who was originally from the West Midlands, was a baker in her spare time. And despite not having any formal training, she made a huge impression in the baking world.
In 2026, she was crowned winner of the Bake Off and in 2026, the TV series saw her reach the semi-finals. She was also crowned Bake Off champion in 2026, when she beat Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
