Is Netflix Top Boy different?

While Netflix has been enjoying increasing success for years, it's just now that the streaming giant has announced what is considered a new top model for it's business.

Called "Top Boy", the plan focuses on expanding to international markets, where the company believes it has an untapped growth potential. In the U.S., Netflix already offers a subscription plan called "Watch Instantly," which lets you watch Netflix movies and TV shows online and on your TV.

Netflix is expected to launch Top Boy by mid-2013, when it says it will be available in more than 190 countries. The streaming service says that this is the first time it has launched a service aimed at international markets, which include many countries that have much higher broadband penetration than the U.99 per month However, users can switch back and forth between the two plans at any time, without having to pay more or less.

The standard plan doesn't come with a DVR: While it allows you to record up to four episodes of an entire series at once, it doesn't allow you to view those recordings at any time other than the time you schedule them. Also, you're limited to 30-minute episodes, which limits your ability to binge-watch.

The Premium plan does allow you to record and watch at your convenience: You can choose to record up to three episodes of an entire series at any time, and you can watch those recordings at any time other than the time you schedule them. You also get a free 7-day trial: When you sign up for the service, you can take advantage of the 7-day trial period to try out the service, so that you can see if you like it or not. After the trial period, you'll still be able to continue to use the service as a free trial member, but will lose access to certain features.

You cancel your subscription any time: If you're not happy with the service, you cancel your subscription at any time, and won't be billed any additional fees.

Is Top Boy Season 5 the last season?

A year ago, fans weren't expecting a sequel to one of the most popular shows on TV, but it is now the longest-running scripted comedy series on broadcast television.

On Sept. 19, 2025, the Season 5 premiere of Top Boy became the longest-running live-action scripted comedy series on network television. (Its Season 4 finale airs this Sunday, Sept. 22.) The first six episodes of the new season were so good that they won multiple awards at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. And fans like those watching the show's premiere in South Africa and India are wondering when it will be back.

The first four seasons of the show, which aired on UK TV station Channel 4, were co-created by David Sandberg and Eric Schrier. Top Boy had a big fan following in its native country and, last year, it was picked up for American distribution by NBC and Sony Pictures Television. Season 5 will star comedian Raheem Kassam as Cassius Cash Stone, a young, aspiring entrepreneur.

In 2025, Schrier and Sandberg told IndieWire that Top Boy would be their last series. They had moved on to other projects, including co-creating the Sky Atlantic drama Trust, Sandberg working on the Star Wars franchise and Schrier directing movies. But they kept in contact with NBC and Sony, asking what they should do next. The network's top priority was to bring it to American TV.

Why is Top Boy popular?
