Can you use NordVPN with a hotspot?

How do I make my VPN shareable via hotspot tethering?

I'm using the latest build of the Microsoft VPN client (3.0.3022.0) on Windows 10 64bit. It's connected to my university's VPN and works fine, however I'd like to be able to share it with other devices via tethering. However, when I try to use the "Share My Connection" option, it asks for a password and doesn't allow me to enter any. I can connect to the VPN using my phone or tablet just fine, so I know the VPN works, it's just not sharing with my laptop or desktop. I've tried disabling the firewall on both my laptop and my phone, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

If you are experiencing this issue in the beta builds of the client, please contact your system administrator and ask them to install the latest build of the client (3.3027.0)

Public networks often have their own security systems. They are often set up so that the only people allowed to connect to the network are employees of the company that owns the network. Your connection to a VPN may not work, or may work only if you use a different security setting. If you are not allowed to use a VPN, you can still access the Internet by using a browser to connect to a secure website like Google.

Many companies install spyware or adware on public Wi-Fi connections to monitor customers' browsing habits. We do not recommend using public Wi-Fi networks. You should connect to a VPN instead.

How can I protect myself while using a public Wi-Fi connection? You can protect yourself by using a VPN. There are many types of VPNs, but most work by creating a secure tunnel between your device and a VPN server. Most VPNs also have firewalls built in. If anyone tries to sniff your Internet traffic, they will be unable to do so.

Does VPN work with mobile tethering?

If so, how should I use it?

Should I use the "mobile" setting or the "lan" setting? Can I use a third party app like AirDroid to send/receive files? Should I create an account with my mobile provider for this? (if so, can I access this through my laptop?). Note that while my original question is about the Android system, I'm looking for answers for a laptop. So yes, as long as the VPN provider supports it, it can work with mobile tethering. It just works and I'm unaware of how to set it up in any program, whether I use a VPN (or VPN on the laptop to go over) or not.
