What are my proxy settings?
Do I have to enter a proxy setting for all my Internet access, or just some?
The Proxy option in Internet Explorer provides some protection against eavesdropping on your Web sessions, but it's not foolproof. A common way of eavesdropping on your Internet connection is to use a proxy server. If a proxy server isn't specified in the Proxy option, you can also configure a proxy server on your computer.
You can specify the following in the Proxy options for Internet Explorer: Web page information. The content of the pages you're visiting.
Web addresses. The addresses of the sites you visit.
Web sites. The addresses of the sites that you visit.
Connecting to proxy servers. Your proxy settings for accessing the Internet.
If a proxy server is specified in the Proxy settings, any proxy server specified in the Proxy options for the default Web browser (Internet Explorer) will be used as a default proxy server. Figure 1-1 shows a sample screen shot of the Internet Options dialog box. How can I add my home IP address to my firewall for faster page downloads and more secure browsing? Firewall rules are defined by two types of rules. The first type of rules is the Inbound rules. These rules let you limit access to Internet resources based on the address of the client device making the request. If you enable these rules, then only packets addressed to your computer will be allowed access. This enables you to limit access to those resources you choose. To add your home IP address to your firewall rules, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to Control Panel. Step 2: Double-click the Start button. Step 3: Right-click on Firewall, and then click Properties. Step 4: Under the General tab, click Add. Step 5: Add the address of your computer. For example, To allow all web requests to pass through your firewall, right-click on Rules, and then click Advanced. Click on Allowed or Denied, and then click OK. Step 6: Click Yes to save changes. Figure 1-2 shows a sample screen shot of the Inbound Rules dialog box. How can I tell if my firewall is active?
How do you tell what proxy server you are using?
This morning, I have decided to find out how many people are using proxy servers.
What do you use? The problem is, how do you tell if you are using a proxy server or not? Do I want a program that asks me what proxy server I am using, or is there a way to know for sure? Any help would be appreciated.
Here's the list of stuff I've used. So far, I have two proxies: YAHOO and NANOGUY. I also use gmail from within my company. I want to be able to tell if I am using a proxy server when I'm in "public" mode (ie away from work) so I can use it if I'm using it. If you want to know how many people are on this site, then why are you asking us to use a proxy?
If you mean HTTP proxy, then if you don't know the answer to that question, then you don't really need a program. A proxy server has very little to do with the web. It affects only the traffic going into and out of the firewall, and you have to configure the firewall to make that happen. Most proxies are used to do certain things like allowing an employee to connect to a company server at home while he is using the company's corporate internet connection.
What kind of programs do you want to run that would make you tell if you are using a proxy? Yes, I was using the "I'm using a proxy server" method. The problem is, I want to use it to check whether I am using a proxy server or not, when I am away from work. I've had my boss ask if I'm using a proxy server because of a message she saw in her email program about using a proxy server. All I want to know is if I am using a proxy or not, not what kind of proxy. And it should be in a program that I download, not in my browser.
How do I know if I am using a proxy server? I have a firewall, but since it works for everything else (including the internet) and I can download any file, I want to know if I am using a proxy or not, when away from work.
How do I turn off proxy in Windows 11?
I am running Windows 11 and I'm having an issue where proxy settings are not working.
Everywhere I look in the browser settings it says "Proxy is on but isn't working". When I try to turn off the proxy in the settings it doesn't work. When I click about:config the only thing there is a network.
Does anybody know how to fix this? It seems that you didn't install the correct version of Chrome and it shows a proxy error. If you click the 3-dots menu you'll find an item named "Show advanced settings". In the "Privacy and security" section, under the "Network" heading, check the box for "Use a proxy to connect to the internet".
