For the past two years I've been using OpenDNS as my DNS and it's been great. I've been with them for many years and they have always been responsive and very helpful when I've had questions about their service.

I'm considering switching to Google DNS, but I don't know how well it will work for my needs. I have a static IP and run my own DNS, so if I have to switch between DDNS providers, it shouldn't be too big of a problem. The other issue is that if I use Google DNS, I won't be able to use my current domain provider's DNS services, which is a concern because I've used those for years.

How important is it to have my domain name resolve correctly when I'm connecting to my router from another device on my network? It's a common occurrence for me to need to SSH into my router from a laptop while my system is running and the IP address is a static one. This is the only reason I'm hesitant about switching to Google DNS. I'm also nervous about using Google DNS with my current domain name provider because I'd rather not lose their service if I switch away from them. Have you considered using your current DNS provider and setting it to the openDNS DNS server? That way you would not lose any of your current DNS records. I'll look into that and see if I can set it up properly. What I really want is for everything to automatically get the new DNS settings when I change to the new DNS.

However, in this part, we intend to describe in detail the factors that affect the functionality of the DHCP component.

DHCP client devices (routers, PC's, mobile phones etc.) perform one or more of two types of exchange with an IP server. Each process takes place in a sequence as shown in figure 1.

DHCP Request Process: On receiving requests from clients or servers, the router forwards such a request through the routing table to the source address in order to find the address of the corresponding DHCP server. This routing information will include the MAC address of the physical layer which sent the request, and this source mac address could match any of the mac addresses of the routers. Hence, in order to avoid duplication of processing, before proceeding to relay the request, the source address needs to be checked against the mac address of all other routers. If such a match exists, then it means the router belongs to a group of routers which all belongs to the same subnet.

In that case, it makes sense for each router to forward the request to the server on behalf of a specific group or subnet instead of sending it on each router's address space.
