Do extensions work on Firefox?
It's been over a year since I posted here and there are a couple new faces from my area, so if my response to something is old/informative/unhelpful.
I'll accept that.
I'm not a fan of the way you get a warning pop-up box when you try to add extensions in Firefox. In Chrome, an extension can show any content you want (eg advertisements), but with Firefox that's restricted to only those that actually work. (eg If an advertisement has been added which just sits there, it's considered a "failed" attempt and will have no functionality)
If you want an example of what I mean by the "restrictions" of Firefox extensions, just try visiting the link in your ad and see how your browser reacts to it, especially if you're using the latest release version. There are things like the Chrome-style extension which do some of the advertising, but it won't let you actually look at a particular site's content (aside from it being a "failed attempt").
I just found a different set of extensions for Firefox that work more like what I was used to in Chrome. These extensions are called addons.
Basically, you browse from top to bottom in each section (which has different type of tabs for each section, such as Books, Movies, etc) where you click one of the tabs to display the type of content for that section. You can also browse alphabetically through all of the sections (like with Chrome, but there's no order for the sections) to have specific options displayed in the section you chose when you click on it.
This looks like a nice way to navigate, as opposed to having lots of sub-sites and stuff that are basically the same as a parent site with slightly different content. I still know that they are probably better used as secondary sources of content (eg I'd never read everything from this or that site in depth, just read the headlines and headlines on each sub-site) but I think it would work well for finding exactly what you need on each topic without having to wade through the content.
