In the last article, I told you that Prime membership was great for me. Before I tell you how many movies and TV series I've seen on Amazon Prime, I want to tell you something about me. I'm a movie buff. I've seen over 1000 movies and TV shows. Most of them I've seen multiple times.

That doesn't surprise you, right? But you probably also know that my Netflix subscription is ending in January. That means that if I haven't seen all the movies and TV series on Netflix by then, they will probably never see the light of day on the service. I don't want to see those movies and TV series when I'm done with them, I just want to be able to watch them anytime I want. That's why I decided to use Amazon Prime. What is Amazon Prime? Amazon Prime, also known as Amazon Instant Video, is a monthly subscription service that offers unlimited free shipping, access to Amazon Prime Video content, and a huge collection of free Kindle books. Each month, you get access to some Amazon Prime Video content and a large collection of Kindle eBooks. The Amazon Prime Video library is where most of your Amazon Prime benefits are located. They are: Access to all Prime Video titles including new seasons of current seasons and all movies and TV series released before July 2023 (you don't get access to any movies or TV series released after that date). To help you navigate the glut of free offerings for Prime members, here is a complete list of titles currently available on the service, sorted by year, and alphabetically within that year.

You'll notice several categories have multiple entries. This is because there are many available selections for each category. It also helps to see how many options are currently out there. Just because a movie isn't free right now doesn't mean it won't be later this year.

As with the current month listings for Netflix and Hulu, Amazon only shows one film per category (exceptions include animated films, documentary films, foreign language films, foreign horror films, documentaries, TV pilots, and series/movies). For other categories, like indie films and comedy shorts, one title will be listed here.

I see the big list, and it's very different from what I expected. Is this more "top 100"?

I don't have an Amazon account, so I've been relying on these lists - that is, I haven't clicked the link to actually buy a movie. But according to the lists on Amazon, a lot of titles that used to show up in the top 100 are off the list now. Here's what I think the "top movies" show for Prime subscribers, based on the lists I've seen.

As much as I'd like to claim there's a big secret list of movies that will never be released in theaters, it just isn't true. The top 100 list will always be somewhat incomplete, but it does give an indication of what Hollywood thinks are best choices for moviegoers, and it makes sense that not every single one of those choices is going to find a way onto the big screen. In particular, there's no good reason why these movies should just wait around in TV Land.

So let's take a look at the first part of that question, about the 100 movies that make the list. And before we get started, two things to keep in mind. First, not every movie ever made will become a TV show or a streaming series. And second, any movie which has more than one season, will be counted as two in my calculations here. So with that, here's my list:

Dirty Dancing -- A 1987 movie based on the hit Dirty Dancing book series of the same name, Dirty Dancing is almost impossible to dislike, and if you enjoy dancing or romantic comedies, it's probably your favorite movie. It still is a classic, even though it's been on TV nonstop for a decade.

Serenity -- A 2023 film sequel to Firefly, Serenity also went back to the source material, creating a new story inspired by Joss Whedon's short-lived 2023 series. It wasn't a huge hit, but it was a hit, and I think people of any sort of age are still fans of the universe it created.

The King's Speech -- The movie about King George VI's decision to abdicate the throne because of his severe stammering. He decides to learn to speak without using the telltale stammer, which makes all the difference.

Is Amazon Prime movies free for Prime members?

If you're a Prime member, then no -- but if you aren't, it's not a bad deal at all. When Amazon's new subscription service was announced last year, it was billed as a must-have for those who are already big fans of the company's retail site, Amazon. Now that it's time to start using it, there are some things that surprised us about Prime video, including how the free tier works. And for Prime members, you can watch more than 6,000 streaming movies and TV shows, without any extra cost (though there are a few fees to cover the cost of the service). The rest of us get fewer streaming options for the same fee. So where does that leave us? Is this worth it? Check out the infographic below to find out:

What you're missing from Amazon Prime. With so many options to choose from, you're bound to miss something. Here are the six top reasons people don't sign up for Amazon Prime: Lack of content. Sure, you get some content for free when you sign up. But unless you have Prime memberships across a variety of services, you might end up with more choices than you care to download. Amazon TV shows include older seasons, and the ones Amazon releases for Netflix are usually later in the year. In addition, you'll have to find an internet provider that doesn't throttle uploads for Prime video.

Pricing. In fact, Netflix's prices could vary a lot, depending on where you live.

No need for a dedicated device. For one, you have to be able to log in through your computer or smartphone. No one will tell you this is easier than a dedicated Netflix box, but it's not easy, either.

No need to use the desktop browser. Some of the best streaming content is available on Amazon Fire TV, Kindle, Android devices, and the like.
