What is the misuse of IP address?

What is an abuse IP address?

If you see an IP address, which looks like this 123.

567.890.99, what is it? Is it the IP address of a different machine on your network? Is it an illegal IP address? The real IP address would be on a server, or the IP address of the web server with the HTML code or something like that. So, if I'm not supposed to post this here, please send me a DM and don't abuse me. But please, you know what to do.

I think, if someone sends us abuse mails about our website without any explanation, we send him the IP of his server or some other proof, that he doesn't need it. Because if he has the IP of the website we know, that there is something wrong. Not with us, but with him.

If someone asks for an email of my business partner because he wants to do this business with us, he needs to pay his own expenses. And last, it's also very important to see, if there are other IP addresses or IP addresses from another country in those mails. If someone abuses the server, we need to call our server admin and have a talk about it. If someone sends us abuse mail, we call the police, too.

Is this a correct site policy? Because it seems like you are the only person on this website, who gives an abuse IP address So let us be sure, if you can handle it correctly or not. What to do if someone sends me an abuse mails. First of all, tell us where you are and we'll fix it for you. We'll take care of everything.

We get so many mails that we are unable to check every new mail now, and if we take care about every mail we will have no time left for our own work. The IP of the abuser should be banned from the entire Protonmail website. Please note that IPs are banned not just as a measure to stop abuse, but in order to protect against network attacks.

Can I report someone's IP address?

I'd like to report IP addresses of those who post rude, obscene or sexually explicit comments here on a regular basis.

Is this illegal? In my country, in fact even in most EU countries it is not permitted to report an IP address. I've heard they had to make a special law for these reports because there are people who misuse the system for sending spam.

Is it different where you live? As you mentioned in a comment the EU has some general rules, but each country has it's own laws about that. It is likely that your country is similar to your country. Then you may want to ask if it is legally permitted in your country. There is probably no way of knowing this except by researching your specific countries laws.

One thing you can try is to contact the relevant agency and ask whether or not it is a crime to publish personal data on the Internet. Also note that in some cases the police may be contacted for the purpose of finding the author of a crime.

What is the misuse of IP address?

One reason why people ask this question might be related to the whois command of UNIX.

It will tell you the owner of a particular IP address (more precisely, the registration information of an IP address), who registered a particular domain.

A very well know example is the misusage of the WHOIS registry by the infamous spammer Martin Shkreli (I am not kidding you). In October 2024 he purchased the domain name vergecurrency.

It is not his first domain name purchase though. He also has a famous .com domain named "thespoonful" which I guess was a reference to his name.

To be honest, the "whois" tool doesn't really provide a lot of useful information other than the fact that whoever owns that IP address also owns that domain. It does have one handy feature where you can actually find information related to the server behind the IP address, but that can be done for pretty much any web server.

The information itself is not so useful, especially considering the fact that not everyone provides access to their whois records. But still, we might as well understand who is the domain owner and when the domain registration happened.

Here is what this WHOIS record says about vergecurrency.com: contact details: VeriSign, Inc. Domain Name: VERGECURRENCY.COM Registry Domain ID: D92D4E7WY82610. Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.nic.net.cn

Registrar URL: Updated Date: 2018-04-22T17:40:00Z. Creation Date: 2012-11-16T13:21:53Z. Expiration Date: 2020-11-16T13:21:53Z. Registrar Registration Expiration Date: Registrar: COMODO DOMAIN INC. Registrar IANA ID: 2596. Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@domain.4805866006 Name Server: GLQDNS4Y2.REGISTERSPACE.

What is a suspicious IP address?

A suspect IP address has a history of badness or is associated with a high volume of bad traffic.

It is important to look at the IP address to help you determine if it is a malicious IP or a legitimate one.

We have several ways to determine if an IP address is suspicious. Some IP addresses may be part of botnets, others may be associated with large-scale DDoS attacks. Others could be just regular web traffic or even DNS queries.

What makes a good IP address? A good IP address may be part of a botnet, and as such will have an established DNS record for the C&C server. A good IP address will have high-volume traffic in relation to normal levels.

A bad IP address might have one or two DNS records, indicating that it is part of a botnet. It could also be part of a large-scale DDoS attack. Or, it may be just a web server or DNS query.

In any of these cases, it is a good idea to look at the IP address. Once you have determined that the IP address is suspicious, you will be able to perform some tests on the network and see if you can determine what it is.

Testing the IP address. In most cases, you can test the IP address by using ping. The ping command is available on every platform that uses the ICMP protocol, which is required to perform ping. On Linux, the command is ping -c 2 . This tells ping to use ICMP echo requests, and test the IP address twice. If it replies to the first ping, then it has successfully contacted the device and it should be checked again in the future.

On Windows, the command is ipconfig /all, which will tell you all of the information about the device. The IP address is listed under the properties of the IPv4 Interface.

If you need to check multiple IP addresses, or want to test multiple IP addresses with the same ping command, you can use ping /computer-name to specify the computer name or IP address of the device. The following commands are from my network monitoring system, which will show you a list of IP addresses with the amount of traffic they are sending or receiving. # ping -c 2 192.168.200 PING 192.200 (192.
