Does proxy require username and password?

How do I change my proxy username and password in Chrome?

I'm trying to configure a proxy in my Chrome browser.

I have a router that is set to port-forwarding to port 8080. When I go to it works as expected. However, when I add Chrome fails. I can get to the proxy page at but all the Google sites fail with "This site can't be reached" (and I'm not an exception).

In the process of trying to figure this out, I read that the proxy settings are in the about:config page, and I found that if I change to then it works fine. So my question is: how do I configure Chrome so that will work? Turns out it was a simple matter of adding to the Hosts file on my Windows machine. And, of course, I had to change the proxy settings for Chrome to match my router's configuration.
