Is Comodo firewall still good?

Is Comodo still free?

From the web site: "Comodo Software offers free security software for individuals.

" ? Is it as good as some other free product? I am not sure what to get (Comodo or NoVirus) and I have heard good stuff about no matter which one I get. Thanks! Forum Replies. Yes, it is still Free. The only change was that we do no longer allow downloads via FTP. If you like I could send you the link for the download on their server.

No, Comodo isn't free, and has NEVER been free. For one thing, Comodo does not "give back", so that does not count as a benefit. More of a cost-cutting measure.

But if you look at comodo again with a "free for everyone else" eye, they do a number of things that make it work for a great many people: One example that I like to mention because it makes so many things much more obvious than most other products on the market, is that they distribute their own firewalls. Every time you buy a Comodo product, you get it from Comodo. No nasty little ads in your toolbar. Not even an iatrogenic advertisement like you can find with other firewall/firewalling products. They are very upfront about how everything works. But it does make some sense, especially for the less technical.

It also does a very good job of giving you a complete view of EVERYTHING that is going on with YOUR computer. There is a nice graph that summarizes everything done with your network (connections initiated or received) that you can open up in a nice little pie chart. It even shows you what type of connection it was.

In addition, it's easy to use. They have a nice "tutorial" built-in that pretty much takes you step-by-step through it all.

There is also a very nice "advanced features" button that takes you to a full tutorial on the "hidden features" of every piece of software in the install. That last little feature allows you to get your friends using comodo.

Is Comodo firewall still good?

I have a small network and my friends and relatives in India use the internet often over VOIP via a PC.

The problem is my laptop running Ubuntu 13.04 is constantly going into suspend whenever they get online, which I guess I can blame on the wifi not being turned off properly. Is there some way to turn the WIFI off automatically if this happens?

Comodo Firewall is one of the best ones on the market. I have been using it with all kind of OSes without ever have a single problem. There were issues when it was first introduced but it's worked quite well since then. A few users report stability issues with Windows 7 but there's something else at play and I can't find out what.

Comodo firewall is the most popular, but not always 100% reliable as advertised. However - the price and reputation that it gives for protecting your PC means that if you buy it, its a fair guarantee that its done. It is still good, but only as your main browser and AV protection. It has become a victim of over-promising, leading to false confidence. The "reputation" part comes in more from the fact that you can buy more firewalls like it than any other, and so people tend to think of them as "safer".

This also means that the main benefit of Comodo is the free malware signature updates and the virus/malware detection. For these you have other competing programs which offer similar free virus data updates, but generally better overall protection. The AV is better than that of others and so the value is much higher for AVs, but it's not completely bulletproof. The free stuff (as well as the premium AV) are usually fairly reliable in detecting viruses, malware and hijackers. The free stuff does usually have problems in preventing a virus/malware attack. The premium AVs offer more robust protection, but the free one will catch the majority of viruses out there.

The "free updates" part - Comodo gets that from you buying a "license", rather than free because you don't need to pay to keep updates out. Some people do pay however and they get the updates at no extra cost.

Is Comodo a good or bad antivirus?

Should I buy it or no?

I've been thinking about this for the last couple of weeks now. I know this is a very sensitive topic, but I want the advice of those on this forum. Just because something is sensitive, doesn't make it offtopic.

It's always been my opinion that Comodo products are overrated antiviruses that just have a lot of false positives that are actually not viruses. Their malwarebytes also scans for viruses every 30 minutes which is absurd and I don't want that if it were possible.

Then again Comodo products have a good reputation for their browser protector. Although I've seen many reviews saying that their browser protector isn't very good. So that isn't good either. I mean, I was considering picking up their internet security suite because they have one with antispyware but I'm afraid their browser protector might be worse.

Well it all depends on your needs in regard to safety or convenience. If you only need safety features then by all means get them. If you need them along with ease of use as well as more complete features, go with something else. There is always going to be a trade off one way or another so it is your preference that determines what will work best.

I also think there is too much focus placed on 'bad' programs and 'good' programs because people usually tend to make opinions based on such things. For the most part, people look for what they feel is appropriate or necessary and then form their opinions based on that. In other words, people feel good when they find something considered either good or bad by them for whatever reason. So while sometimes programs are truly good or truly bad, more often than not, people's opinions are colored by what they need to satisfy their needs.

Comodo can do everything you mention it could do (which is not a bad thing) and is the fastest most lightweight AV I have seen (and I'm no fan of slow/sluggish) but the false positives is a bit of a concern.I'd say Comodo is basically a "just-as-fast" AV (it does take almost 1 minute longer to scan for an instance than a competing AV that I would place it against).
