What level of support does Octoparse offer?
Octoparse has a dedicated team of developers working on it. You may see quick progress within hours. Should any problem arise, just contact us via our support system.
We really appreciate you spreading Octoparse. Feel free to help us by reporting bugs you come across you're our main source of support.
Supported platforms. Octoparse has been tested with Windows, Mac, and Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora). We do occasionally run some Unix-based systems (like FreeBSD and OpenBSD) but have yet to make full use of their powerful console toolkit.
There is a lot of ongoing development that we have not yet got to, such as: Syncing directory views between most all platforms. Windows 7 and 8 compatibility. Cloud sync. Platform support. (Possible) Windows support: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, Windows Server 2022, 2022, 2022 (x64), 2022. Most likely Linux and Mac compatibility. Unsupported platforms. We are yet to test on: Android. All other alternative operating systems (such as Solaris, Tizen, etc. Some OSs take a long time to fully support our technology, so please be patient. Why isn't Octoparse installed as standard on Mac and Windows? There are a few issues with packages, so we have decided to refrain until these are resolved: Mac App Store. The Mac App Store is sporadic with how they handle libraries. Microsoft Denials. Microsoft has never given out permission to use their Office suite in unofficial distribution channels. There is conflicting information about whether Microsoft will attempt to do so in the future. Even if they do, it may be a long time until this becomes an official part of Windows and Mac operating systems.
File extensions. In the Windows context, Office doesn't use file extensions to determine which application to open. This is reproducible in other applications which use the Windows "classification" system.
Tolerating this leads to other problems. Frequently Asked Questions. What is the Octoparse project about? Octoparse is an Internet Explorer extension that makes Internet Explorer tabbed browsing more convenient.
What are the top alternatives for Octoparse?
For me, Octoparse has been great for discovering new APIs but I wont be surprised if it gets replaced, I'd use OctoKit, it's another great K8s kubectl based client and their API is documented and most of them accept all the parameters you can put into Octoparse. Perhaps looking into the K8s client will give you interesting ideas? (and I'll eventually make it to Pycon too, just waiting for the Visa to go through). SanguineVratSollecito: I wouldn't bother - it's quite a bit of effort, and it would pull in almost 500k lines of source to build and maintain, as opposed to around 100k. In case anyone was wondering, I asked. Obvious that you've never tried it out. A source-only binary for Windows is less than 100kb.
However, I'd suggest that an alternative is to use the API Helpers library (located in the repository) and write the call that generates the Info section yourself. Maybe start with something like this: I've got an app that uses octoparse and it works well, it also supports cross cloning between a deployment and cluster which teaches me a lot of cool stuff. The issue that follows is that it takes a fair bit of effort to first get it up and running. I see your point but the key for me is that it makes discover, with the knowledge of the various APIs I use, and how they work and get stuff done, much simpler. The capabilities of a successful API is matching what someone is trying to achieve, as I am trying to accomplish with Octoparse. I was hoping that something would appear that would allow people to just write their application and not muddle around with a lot of bubbly looking command line outputs.
We stopped maintaining Octoparse in 2022 because it was incompatible with current versions of Python, and when we tried to update it, we didn't have a lot of volunteers to step up and help update it.

Which tool is best for web scraping?
(Scrapy the preferred choice?)
I'm looking for advice on web scraping. I'm zealous about it, and I have thought about learning it in the past.
The problem is, it takes advanced knowledge of programming/scripting languages, along with knowledge of data structures and multi threaded programming techniques to make it work, expand on it and even more problematically :). After getting that online, you can't do anything but practice.
I can't have that, I need something that is streamlined, and even easier to start picking up. So I came across scrapy, what makes it better in comparison to web scrapers such as Yahoo, Google or Microsoft's offerings. It appears to be a suitable tool for my use case, but I do not know if there is another better tool out there already. N.B: Yes, I am fully aware that scraping means something entirely different than web scraping.
So here is what you can do, if your primary purpose is only for scraping. Scrapy doesn't replace the need of knowing how to do skills, Ruby is not a posted language but just like php, Pyhton and some other languages have libraries which make a lot of the common tasks "easier". As far as performance goes: This is actually the only reason, why a Pure Webscraper with no "ground work" (list all the urls, download them and work with them yourself) is better. A pure scraping does always much better than a party with some things you don't care about for example, a table on a page ending in a page of pictures of a city instead of a table with odds for a crazy touristic travel offer.
But: If you have finished some basic phyton scripting, this tool seems the way to go because you can be sure that you did it the right way and it is not that hard to do a update in python whenever there is a new website, even if you wouldn't like to have that happen. So if you where in between cash and "the story" you no longer would have to wait for another company to take the project.
Upgrade your skills without losing time on learning an online skill.
Is Octoparse safe to use?
I'm going to be using Octoparse to autobuilds for my craftbukkit server. Is that safe to use? Will it continue to update when I'm off-line? It seems to already have a lot of people using it, however I've seen numerous down votes for using Octoparse. Why?
Yes and no, it depends on what you mean by "it depends". If you're just using it to find out what's available and download the latest versions of plugins for your Craftbukkit server, then no, it should be fine. Just remember that Octoparse is a plugin and does not exist on its own, so it's not like you're using the in-game option to do the same thing.
If however you're using it to, potentially, do some harm to and/or gather information from your server, then you should be a little more careful. Anyone could have downloaded it, so don't expect people to be shocked or disappointed. You can hide or disable the plugin, but keep in mind you can get around that, and if you're not careful you might end with a server with no plugins which is what happened to a friend of mine. Basically, I'd say it is probably safe, but you should be aware of the fact that people will be able to use it, and be prepared to counter any odious actions they might attempt to take.
Octoparse is not a built-in feature of CraftBukkit. It's a plugin and as such can be uninstalled, which is basically a mute point for any player that has it enabled. So in and of itself, it is safe, but the plugin is not.
That being said, it is not even the safest plugin in terms of malicious use. That would probably go to the premier plugin for scripting, OSB2. I would advise against using Octoparse for any malicious use at all, but if you're sure you're just looking for the latest available plugins for your server, use it.
Is Octoparse Chinese?
Since the Solar Power Finance Team's (SPFT) focus is on the Chinese market, we're going to give you a glimpse into the Chinese world of solar power. Unlike the rest of the world, the Chinese have a system of tags that they use to refer to products and services. These tags are attached to business in the Chinese language and provide a very versatile way to break down research for the purpose of commerce, and this is a very important part of the development of China's solar industry.
A tag is defined as the Chinese word for a dream. Tags were traditionally used in the traditional Chinese dictionary as a method of reviewing words in order to be able to recognize previously unknown words. As a result, there is quite a lengthy history to this method. The first of the modern tags was introduced in the 1950's, and it was called the jingle-ode. The jingle-ode is a single character or sound that is used to identify a word and the idea was later expanded using two characters.
The first modern chess-end pre-search of the English vernacular is known as the character search. It was introduced for use with the Google search engine, but has since been adopted for a large number of online Chinese dictionaries. The character search is an easy alternative to the single character search, but it can only utilize exact matches. For example, below is a set of words from the Physiology word group.
Since all of these words have a single character, the search for all three will fail. Following the character search is the single character search, where the user will be searching for a single character. This is generally the first step of a search, since it is the easiest to perform. This is a fairly simple form of the single character search, but it is not always feasible for the jingle-ode.
Since the Chinese match their words using the ideographic characters, it is often difficult to determine exact matches. It is possible, however, to use the Chinese character meaning to determine an approximation. Which leads us to the second method of the single character search, which is the hexagram pre-search.
It is fairly common for the Chinese to use the word meanings or the six trigrams when pronouncing a word.
