Does Family Link location work on iPhone?
I am looking into the Family Link location service, which is offered as part of Google Maps for Business. I'm looking into it in particular because I want to make sure that my company's location will be correct in any Google Maps-generated navigation directions.
Can this location service work on an iPhone? Does it require a connection to Google's servers, or does it use GPS directly? What happens if there is no Internet connection? My understanding is that Family Link uses GPS data and does not rely on a server. It works even when you are offline. Family Link is an alternative location service for businesses who have G Suite, Google My Business or Google Maps for Work accounts. The service leverages the mobile data connection instead of GPS to determine your business location.
The service is designed to work in three different modes: "Online Mode": The device is online and connected to Google's servers. "Offline Mode": The device is offline but still has a connection to the network. The device periodically connects to Google's servers to get updates about its location. The update process is not very reliable.
"No Internet Connection": The device is not connected to the network. It is using GPS to find its location. It may take a long time to find its location.
The location is used for generating navigation directions on Google Maps and Google Maps for Work.
What to do if Family Link is not working?
Family Link is a federal program that offers free legal aid and immigration services to citizens and permanent residents of Canada with family ties in the U.S. If you are not sure whether your family qualify for Family Link, check the requirements below. There is also a list of organizations to consider if you need additional support for a legal matter.
Can I get a letter from a U. Citizen or permanent resident for Family Link? Yes. Contact a U. Citizen or permanent resident of Canada to get a letter for an application (Form I-130) for you and your spouse. This can be arranged at:
In order to take advantage of Family Link you will need to make an application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. For details on how to submit Form I-913 (Canadian application), download our Family Link Guide.
Do I have to file a separate application for Family Link if I am a Canadian citizen? It is possible to apply for Family Link if you are a citizen of Canada because the government will issue a letter stating that they cannot verify you and your spouse's ties to the U. And ask you to send this letter back with your application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). If a letter issued, CIC will process the application for you. Be advised that submitting a separate application does not guarantee success and that you should consult with a qualified immigration professional before proceeding.
Can I use my child's or parent's U. Visa to satisfy Family Link? No. A visa is a document which is used to determine one's ability to stay in the United States. You may find that Family Link requires you to enter the U. As a visitor or through a visitor's visa. The U. Consulates in the province you live in may be able to tell you if you can travel under an emergency visa or the B1/B2 visa category. Learn more about visitor's visas.
Is it legal for a foreigner to use their U. Visa to come to Canada and apply for Family Link? This is a misconception that many people think. Although we can confirm that this did happen at one time in the past, as far as we are aware, anyone in Canada has had difficulty establishing this connection.
How do I bypass Family Link location?
In a phone conversation with CSPAN's Washington Journal on November 18th, the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins said: We have to be very concerned about the privacy issues with this and I think that the government should get out of your private life. They shouldn't be in your private life. You don't need to register when you go to college, you don't need to register when you go to work, you don't need to register where you go to church, you don't need to register where you go to college. But if the government is going to track your every move, they need to get out of your private life.
Perkins said that by providing Family Link information, parents are giving the government access to your entire life. We are currently seeking your help to contact the Family Research Council so that we can ask the FRC to clarify their remarks. If you are a member of Congress, we would like to let you know that were not able to locate any Family Research Council Members in the House or Senate that represent the District of Columbia or the state of Maryland. What we found was a Family Research Council office in Rockville, Maryland (Washington DC is technically part of Maryland). We have contacted the office to find out whether Tony Perkins is a member of the Rockville, Maryland office, but have not yet received a response.
If you can provide us with a phone number for Tony Perkins at the Rockville office, we will be happy to follow up with the office to clarify his remarks. We would be happy to have your support in calling Tony Perkins at the Rockville office of the Family Research Council and asking him to clarify his remarks regarding Family Link. We will update this blog when we hear back from Tony Perkins at the Rockville, Maryland office of the Family Research Council. Thanks for your help!
