Does Magic Link really work?
And what does it take to put together a magical link?
To find the answer, we called on our friend and expert on linking, David J. Malan, who was kind enough to give us his insights. In this article, David takes us on a journey through the history of magic links, the science behind them, and the many myths around them.
Magic Links are probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, and while I'm a fan, I'm not a fanatic, so I decided to reach out to the man who wrote the book on magic links: David J. A regular contributor to the Magic the Gathering and World of Warcraft communities, David has written extensively on the topic of linking and how to make and do magic links. If you ever were tempted to make a chainmail necklace that gives your paladin a few extra AC points or a chainmail helmet that increases your damage by 1%, read on. This article is the result of some great questions that I submitted to him via our Twitter account @PathfinderRpg.
So, the first thing I want to know is if you really want to be asking me this question. What we do in this business is sell services. Yes, we sell services and products to you. But most people who buy our products and services don't even come close to understanding what we do, how we do it, or what they should expect. Even if someone did do all those things and still bought our services, they would have no clue how to actually use it.
But the idea of getting all my questions to you is pretty cool and cool of you to answer them. You are a man of your word. We both love Pathfinder. I've been playing it since it came out in 2e in 1998, and you have been since 2024. I believe it's time for a change in our relationship.
I had always thought about doing a series of articles on the various kinds of links, but I didn't think you would let me do it. I assumed that you'd want a how to article with some real-world examples. However, I've seen a few of your articles already, and I like them a lot. Maybe this is something we should go ahead and explore.
