Does Synology have a VPN client?
(like how you can VPN into a server in VMWare)?
I have a Synology NAS and I'd like to do something similar. Any ideas? I'm thinking that I would like to use a VPN client like the ones that they provide in Windows to connect to my home network and get internet access while on the road. I have a Synology NAS that I would like to use for the same purpose. Does anyone have any experience with this or know of any solutions?
I am pretty sure that there is no client for Synology, but you can use a client that has an interface for VMWare (there are a few out there). Oh, I didn't realize there were VMWare clients for Linux. I was just wondering if there was anything like that for Synology. There is no direct solution for Synology, but you can still use VMWare Workstation to get a GUI interface to your NAS, so you can access the NAS as if it was a Windows PC. Thank you for the info. Thanks for the info! That sounds interesting.

How do I install OpenVPN client?
The only way to use OpenVPN on my Linux (Debian) computer is to install a binary compiled for my distribution. The binaries are available for Arch, CentOS/RHEL, Fedora/RHEL, Debian/Ubuntu and various other Linux distros. It's the same for OpenVPN Windows version, also available in binary form.
It should work out-of-the-box, without using extra software to accomplish this task (such as "OpenVPN GUI"). If you want to use OpenVPN client, with an OpenVPN server, you need at least some specific steps to install it. When I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I was not able to connect to my OpenVPN server from OpenVPN client version 3.0 but worked normally from OS X and earlier versions.
First of all download the binary version of OpenVPN server for your Linux distribution. After you have downloaded it you have to make sure your openvpn config file includes an appropriate config dir and file name, and a directory for OpenVPN logs.
