Which platform is best for remote jobs?
I am looking for a platform for remote work, I am currently in the USA and plan to eventually move to Canada.
The platform should let me: work with any device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) - work from anywhere (or multiple places). The main reasons are: my current job (programming) is for the US market and the platform has to support all markets or at least be able to allow me to change my market at anytime. I will have more than 1 programming job, with each being on a different network. I am currently very mobile and will not always need a big monitor connected to my computer. A good example would be: Work from the app, phone or tablet, then sync back to a desktop computer. There are also some platforms that I already use and really enjoy: My experience in trying many different options has been that these platforms are lacking in most categories - the one exception I have found is email notifications for meetings / scheduling. Most of the time it feels like I need to keep track of which platform I signed up for notifications etc., whereas in most of the other platforms they just work!
Are there more pros and cons to any of the various platforms? Maybe you have worked with a few and would recommend one over the others. Should I try to narrow it down more? Thanks for reading! Thanks for reading my question! TravisSep 20 '13 at 16:51. 1
If you're not willing to learn new platform, then don't ask "which platform" -- it's pointless and will only result in a long discussion with no real definitive answers. Use any one or combine with another that works for you. And please take my points into consideration.

With it, I can start any conversation from my personal account, regardless of where my coworkers are working, and reply directly from the group. It's amazing! Also, there's an app for almost everything - we started using Google Hangouts and it was ok, but it's better suited for meetings rather than direct messaging.
Why can't I get hired for a remote job?
We've all heard the stories.
They wouldn't even give me a chance. I had to wait for months before I got any response. I was told it wasn't even possible.
The truth is, you have no idea what might be stopping you from getting hired. The job market is tough. Companies are being cut back and even more people are applying for the same job openings. Your resume may not be up to par, and your work history may be lacking.
You may not have a network of contacts in your industry. You may be fresh out of college and can't find anyone who can vouch for you. You may be new to the area and may not have friends or family to help you get a foot in the door.
If you're a remote worker, you may be in an even worse situation. And when you do apply for a remote job, the odds are stacked against you. How many remote jobs are out there? About 20% of the Fortune 500 have a remote workforce, according to Forbes. However, even if you're lucky enough to land a remote gig, you'll still have competition. The top two reasons employees choose to work remotely are: flexibility (36%) and cost savings (34%).
But most companies don't want to pay for all that extra office space. This leaves us with a huge gap. How many remote jobs are out there? How can you tell if a remote job is worth your time and effort? And how can you find remote jobs when you're not sure where to start? I've worked with hundreds of companies over the past decade and every single one of them is different. Every company has different needs and different hiring processes. Some companies are very interested in hiring remote workers, while others won't even look at it.
