How good is Opera Pro VPN?
Opera Pro is an advanced VPN client with an interface that is easy to navigate, and offers most of the features you would expect from a VPN service. The UI is quite clean and easy to use, and all features work quickly and reliably. You can choose from a wide variety of options for your connection, including a choice of server locations.
There are two main reasons why I chose Opera Pro VPN over other VPN services: First, the application is super easy to use, and it is fast. I don't have to set up complex VPN configurations - Opera Pro takes care of that for me automatically. I can easily connect to my favorite VPN locations from the main page, and I can easily disconnect when I'm done.
I could never get into VPN configurations with Windows (or with Macs). I always had to go to the advanced settings area and there were dozens of places where I had to choose options. In Opera Pro, you just select your server location and you're done!
Second, the VPN is fast! When I try torrent from Opera Pro, I see that it is actually quicker than normal! In general, I find the Opera Pro VPN client to be quite reliable. The only thing that has ever caused me any problems is that sometimes the connection does not reconnect properly. I can't imagine why that happens, but there have been times when I have tried to re-connect and it has just not worked.
In general, it is a very easy and reliable VPN service. The Pros. Easy to Use. I think Opera Pro is the best VPN service in terms of ease of use. I can connect to my favorite locations in seconds, and I can disconnect again in seconds. It is a no brainer for me to use Opera Pro!
Fast. When I download torrents from Opera Pro, it is faster than when I do the same with the free version of the service. So this may because the free version doesn't include some of the features that I like, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy with the service.
Very Easy. I like that I can quickly connect to my favorite locations in a matter of seconds, and I don't have to worry about setting up a complicated VPN configuration.
Can Opera VPN be trusted?
I am in need of some advice on whether or not to use Opera VPN. I have used other VPNs in the past but none have given me the results I am after.
I will tell you right up front, I don't have any idea how it works and I don't care if you tell me as long as you keep it to yourself. I only want the info that I need to make an informed decision about whether or not to use it.
What I want is to be able to run a VPN on my Mac, preferably a server that I can access remotely and have a reliable connection to. You've been given all the info you need to make a decision, now make it. Thanks for the help. I know that I will have to do some reading to understand how it works. I am just not going to run anything untested.
I need a reliable VPN that I can access remotely and I need it to be free so that I can get an unlimited amount of time to experiment with it. I know that the server may not always be up because I will be accessing it from a remote location, but I just want to be able to access it and if I am out for longer than 5 minutes I should be able to get back on.
The speed I want to achieve is the same that I get when I connect to a free WiFi hotspot at McDonald's, the one with no firewall on it. If it were up to me I would pay money for that kind of speed, but I can't because they block all connections to anything but their own site.
When I try to use a VPN I get a connection that is too slow and laggy to be usable.
Does Opera VPN hide IP address?
I use Opera VPN connection on my desktop using a local proxy that I run. My question is how does Opera hide my IP address when I'm connected to their website via VPN? If it hides it, why wouldn't Google do the same thing and hide the IP address of my computer from them? I know what VPN's are and how they work but I still can't understand how they hide an IP. All suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks.
The point of the VPN connection is to allow your computer to access the web as if you were sitting at a remote location. So, if it is not hiding your IP address, your IP address cannot be considered to be hidden.

You may use Tor to "hide" your IP address - and most of the VPNs out there, don't change your IP (or maybe a small part of it), but use Tor for the rest. So, it's almost like running 2 computers with 1 IP address.
To get rid of those pesky cookies (not sure whether they're actually necessary for websites) you can use a simple cookie cleaning browser extension. I've not used Opera VPN myself, but from the description in this FAQ it seems to have no problem hiding its IP address. You won't be able to browse all websites - Google is probably the only site where they'll allow access to you since they know you've recently been connected via an Opera VPN - but certainly anything you actually want to purchase and/or download they should let through.
Note that Opera are doing you a favour by providing such a service - just think about whether it'd be enough to actually "cough up" for the service :). @gman - it does, because that would defeat the purpose of the OP. The question was how Opera can allow you to browse from a remote IP address without being traced, that's all. It is a nice feature. And no, it doesn't change your real IP.
