Why does BBC iPlayer not work on my Firestick?
Last Updated: June 21, 2026.
What Is BBC iPlayer? BBC iPlayer is the web-based TV and radio streaming app on your Firestick. It allows you to access hundreds of thousands of UK-only video and radio programmes, catch-up or rewatch content from any device, and record them too. It's very easy to use, which is what makes it such a hit.
With all this in mind, I thought I'd share my setup and give some insight as to how I got my Firestick working with BBC iPlayer, as I think my experience can help others. If you need specific help with any part of this, the answers may be found here on our Support Site. For quick online support via live chat, check out the link in the footer (there's a button there!). If you're experiencing issues with the Firestick, drop me a line on Facebook, Twitter, or using the comments below.
There are different variants of this model, the only difference being the storage size, and whether it comes bundled with the box or not. In the interests of full disclosure, I bought this from Amazon in a bundle with the Firestick, so these reviews will be based on the Amazon price when included, though any discounts applied at checkout are noted.
The Firestick 3 model without the box is priced 39.99 from Amazon, but you can save around 15 by purchasing the model with the box.
When you try to play BBC iPlayer, you get the following error message: That appears to mean it can't find a valid stream for the requested channel. The same thing will happen for many channels if you don't own the correct TV Licence to watch the channel.
In reality, this isn't quite true; the problem is that it should be much, more straightforward than that. If your Firestick doesn't find a usable stream, it means there's probably a firewall or network issue. Or it could be due to a bug in the system.
But no matter what the cause, you should be able to bypass it, so long as you have a suitable account. Let's take a look at exactly how to bypass the error.
How to fix BBC iPlayer error code 02066 Firestick?
I have installed BBC iPlayer on my Firestick HD to check out some series from BBC iPlayer.
This is fine when everything works smoothly and plays videos. However, I occasionally see a message saying that "Video could not be played because the system reported an error". There's no details and the only way to get further access is to change devices.
I've tried resetting to factory settings which does not work at all. So any help fixing this problem would be appreciated.
I have the same problem and it wont let me download/watch certain tv shows in UK. It says: "There was a server problem - Retry or contact your ISP". However I tried different IP addresses (IPv4/IPv6) and they didn't work either. I do the same as when it will work so I cant understand why it will suddenly work, only for very brief period of time. This problem has been occurring since about 1 month before. I have now spent 6 days trying different methods with no luck whatsoever. Do you guys have any solutions at all?
Ok I'll start off by saying I am a total novice. So sorry if this turns into a long winded response.
But here goes.i downloaded the firestick app onto my computer and transferred my log in details and then downloaded the app onto my Fire stick. The error message was not a good error message it just gave the code number with no further information about it. I called BT and asked for an adviser. He referred me back to the developers. I told him what I was downloading and he reccomended I change the country settings which I did and updated my fire stick to match. Now it stills gives the same error. Now after many hours of trying and research I came across this site. I put in every code given and it gave me the same error messages. It also asked me to make sure that the connection was good. I have made sure that it is.
What else can I try? I tried downloading another app from BT as well as downloading some other ones. When I tried to watch one of the BBC iPlayer apps I got the same 'video error' Sorry for the long reply as my original post wasnt very clear. The app is a free BBC iPlayer app. Not the one that comes with the box.
Does BBC iPlayer work on Amazon Fire?
The BBC iPlayer service has long been available on a range of Apple products, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
If you're a UK resident and you own one of those devices, you've probably already experienced the BBC iPlayer and apps like Netflix. However, the BBC is now preparing to launch its iPlayer service on Amazon Fire, the new Amazon tablet and Kindle Fire. So is it worth it?
What is BBC iPlayer? The BBC iPlayer is a subscription service, offering a selection of TV and radio programmes from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, 5 and Channel 5, as well as Sky content. You can watch programmes as they're being broadcast, or download them to watch later.
The BBC iPlayer website also includes sections for programmes that have been added to your watchlist, programmes you've recently watched and programmes you've liked. You can also find out which programmes you haven't yet watched, as well as information on upcoming programmes.
If you're a UK resident and you own an Apple device, you can use the BBC iPlayer app, which lets you use the device as a remote control. You'll need to have an existing BBC iPlayer account (which you can create using your iTunes account) and a UK iTunes Store account.
How do I get BBC iPlayer on Amazon Fire? There's no official BBC iPlayer app for Amazon Fire, although there is an unofficial app called BBC iPlayer. The BBC iPlayer app isn't officially endorsed by the BBC, but it's pretty good - and there are no ads.
You can download the BBC iPlayer app for free, though it's currently only available for Android and iOS devices. There's no information on when the app will be available for Amazon Fire, so you'll have to use the unofficial app until then.
Downloading the app requires an existing BBC iPlayer account, which you can create using your iTunes account. When you're ready to try the app, you'll need to download the .apk file, then sign into your existing BBC iPlayer account to use the app.
