Why is my VPN not working even though connected?
I have connected my android to a modem and my wifi, but my vpn has stopped working. The wifi and modem is working but not the VPN.
This can happen if one of your applications that use the vpn service are force closing. Or, because you have more than one application (like Firefox and Chrome), your vpn doesn't get disconnected automatically.
In any case, you can try to find and kill any process of yours that use your vpn. Then reconnect and try the vpn again.

Why isn't my VPN working on my phone?
Is anyone else having issues connecting to their VPN after installing the Android Beta release? I'm trying to connect from my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and the status says Connecting, then "You can not establish connection with this host". I tried going into the Network Settings and re-setting my VPN details but when I select the VPN profile in the list it goes straight back to "Select VPN type". Thanks for any help. I've had similar issues connecting, but I didn't manage to fix it myself. This one was more persistent than my last one, as well.
The problem is that you have to do a couple of things in order to make it work. First off, you need to change your default route by adding '10.x' to your routes. That way, when your phone tries to send data to 10.x, it sends it via the vpn connection instead. After doing this, you need to remove the vpn-ip-to-subnet mapping you have in there. To do this, go to WiFi settings, scroll down to VPN options, and then uncheck everything. The last thing you need to do is go back to network settings, go to VPN options, and select either automatic mode or no configuration needed. This last step seems to help keep your connection alive until it's active, even if the default gateway is changed.
Once this is done, when you run 'adb shell' and you see the root filesystem running on 10.x:8632, you should be able to SSH into it.
Now, the only issues with your problem are the following: Your default route needs to be setup correctly. As I mentioned above, your default gateway MUST be fixed at 10. Otherwise, adb will fail.
If you're SSHing into a separate interface, you won't be able to ping 10.x as it will think that it is sending packets to localhost. This can be easily fixed by using 'ping 10.1', if that's what your router actually gives out as the address. Otherwise, just use '10.1' and it will work fine.
You may have to reboot, but I didn't.
