How to configure WinGate proxy server?

In my company, we do development of web application using Oracle. We need to access external resources from the web app. So we have WinGate(version 5.0.6) proxy server configured in our office.

But every time when I work on this web application, the wingate proxy configuration page doesn't show up. The localhost:8080 does show up.

It seems that the wingate proxy is disabled now, since we can access external resource now directly from our web app using localhost:8080. Any idea about how to re-enable wingate proxy? Or it's something different that we need to do? In my company, we have wingate 3.7.8 installed, and wingate proxy is enabled in it.

It might be hard to do with Windows Server 2003/2008 (this has been around for so long though). However, try opening up "Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services" and start the WinGate service. It will ask you if you want to restart it.

WinGate Proxy is part of winGate which runs in windows services as a background process. If you close that WinGate service also the proxy won't run.

I guess the WinGate Proxy config screen is probably part of the WinGate. You can try reinstalling the entire package. If that doesn't help, you could also try uninstalling your installed 3.8, update to latest and reinstall 3.8 with current version of your proxy.

The latest WinGate version is 5.9. Download the latest version and install it. It should be available from the installation prompt when you start installing the package.

Then, in the Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services->winGate, you should see an item "winGate Proxy Server" that starts automatically whenever Windows boots up. Also, just to make sure, you can go to the registry and check the value in "HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftwareWinGate". It should say "Started", or whatever else you set it.

Is WinGate proxy server free?

Question: What is a proxy server? A proxy server is a program which hides your IP address when you access websites that require logins or other authentication, such as online shopping sites and game servers. A proxy server works by receiving requests for web content from the client's computer and sending it on to the appropriate web server instead. The IP address of the client is then passed on to the web server, thus hiding it from the eyes of anyone else trying to access the website.

Question: Is using a proxy server safe? No. A proxy server is just a way of helping you get around website blockades. It does not ensure that you won't be hacked or attacked. You still have to make sure that you are safe when browsing the Internet by yourself.

Question: How do I set up a proxy server? There are numerous ways you can set up your own proxy server. If you are using Windows, you can try setting up a local router (router.homeip.net/docs/). You can also try setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) (www.thevpn.org). Alternatively, if you are using Linux, you can try Squid (squid.sourceforge.net). If you're not using Windows or Linux, you can try using a third-party proxy server.

What is proxy in WIFI settings?

I have a new laptop which has a dual boot system. One Windows 7 and the other Ubuntu. I am using the laptop on-the-go as I travel and use the Ubuntu for my studies. I have been using this laptop for some months now and so far so good.

The laptop has a dual-boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10. In the Ubuntu OS, I have installed WiFi-Direct through the Software Centre as it was required in my course. It worked fine.

The WiFi signal was very strong as I am in a wifi-hot spot. But, one problem arose, when I tried to connect to the WiFi signal, my device (laptop) would not detect any of the available network. I tried searching the solution on internet. A lot of people suggested that the Windows 7 may be blocking the WiFi connection. So, I thought of switching my operating system to Windows 7 and try connecting from there.

As the laptop is dual boot, I could not simply switch to Windows 7, as there would be loss of data. So, I copied my files and settings to a backup drive. Then, installed Windows 7 on my laptop and tried to connect to the WiFi.e. It was also not working.

So, I was completely at a loss. What could be the issue here? There was a single option in the Network setting. It had the default connection to WiFi.e. That was it. I clicked on the wireless icon, a blue icon with a wireless network signified in the network.

No other networks were shown here. And I am in a very strong wifi signal zone. So, I thought of trying the Ethernet option and connect to the Internet through my ethernet cable. I connected to the Ethernet and it worked fine.

However, I got stuck here. The WiFi worked fine as well, but there was a proxy option in my WiFi settings. I tried disabling the proxy option, but it was not working. So, what does it mean by proxy in WIFI settings? Does it have any impact on the connection?

There are times when you want to block content that can be accessed by people other than you from your local area network. For example, if you have children that visit your house, you can limit access to certain websites.

What are the three types of proxies?

In the context of the article, there are three types of proxies. Proxy - a software package or tool that will handle authentication and authorization. Firewall - a hardware component such as a dedicated server which can be used to allow access for remote systems from the outside world. Proxy Server - a program or process that acts as an intermediary between the user and the network. It sounds like they're only talking about the first item. The author specifically mentions the second item as "a physical firewall, such as a dedicated server" and uses Firewall as a proper noun, while the first item is not mentioned as such.
