How do I change the protocol in IPVanish Mac?
My ISP is on IPv6 and I have IPv4
IPvanish support staff here.
Question. I have both IPv4 & IPv6 on my ISP. ? My ISP is on IPv6 and I have IPv4.
My understanding is that it is possible to configure for either protocol. There are options to use one over the other. However, how do I switch between protocols when I am in the tunnel? For example: my ISP uses IPV6 as its primary protocol but most sites offer only IPV4, so how can I get around the lack of IPV6 support in those sites?
I understand I can always forward to an IPv6-only site when I'm accessing such a site. But if there's a way to make the Mac detect which protocol is used and choose the appropriate route, that would be great! Your ISP uses IPv6? No way! When you say "my ISP uses IPV6", do you mean they support IPv6? What's more likely here. Your ISP is trying to put off/avoid fixing their network, or they really have no idea how to provide native IPv6 connectivity. And because of a lack of resources, even if they DID know how, they're just too lazy or stupid to even bother?
If it were me, I'd be making some phone calls. I would look into whether the ISP is doing ANY sort of load testing of their network. Or is there a reason they could simply not care to allocate any bandwidth to IPv6 traffic.
They are using ipv6 but I need to access something that is ipv4 only . Is there an easy way to allow my mac to use ipv4 and bypass v6 when I am online? My ISP is on a separate VLAN that has both a gateway to the internet via NAT and the NAT itself has a NAT router within it on the same LAN as the internet gateway. It is using ipv6 as its main network protocol as well but I only want to have NATing in the main LAN, NOT anywhere else on the vlan (eg. No NATing for DNS or DHCP or anything).
Thanks for your help. My ISP's support sucks and I think it is the worst support for IPv6 I have ever received.
