How do I use smart DNS on PS4?
I figured it out myself.
If you have a good VPN (like Hotspot Shield) then you can use smart DNS.
First, go to your PS4 settings and go to the network section. Then look for "IPSec tunnel" and click on it. It will show you a list of VPN servers that you can use.
You can't use Smart DNS as of yet but I know there is a way. I'm not sure how or if it will work in the future. If you use a VPN on the PS4, you can use this method.
Now when you open up the PS4 it should automatically use your VPN server. Note: You may have to make sure the VPN is on and you are connected to it before you restart the PS4.
What is the smart DNS feature in Surfshark?
How does it work?
How many people use it? When was it created?
Surfshark has an interesting new feature they call Smart DNS, and you can download their Smart DNS app to your phone. How do I use it? If you are using their WiFi router (or the router on your wireless network) it will automatically update when it comes online, if not, you can manually set it up via the phone app. What happens when you use Smart DNS? Using Surfshark's free Smart DNS app, it detects your public IP address, and then it changes your DNS settings. If your browser is behind a proxy like Squid, or an advanced VPN like OpenVPN, it will detect the proxy and connect directly to Surfshark's DNS server. If you're already using a router, chances are that you have either an OpenVPN configuration or Squid3 configuration already set up, and will automatically detect those.
Why does this matter? Smart DNS works for most people, but some networks block all access to the public IP address, which can leave you without a way to access the internet. Some networks also block specific protocols like HTTPS or Tor.
For example, let's say you use an OpenVPN connection on your home network. You can check what your public IP address is with a site like and that's great, but what happens when that website blocks access to you based on your IP address? The result could be that your OpenVPN configuration fails to work, and you're left with a dead IP connection. This won't happen if you have a smart DNS configured. You'll still have an IP address, but it will likely resolve to another DNS address that isn't blocked, and you should be able to access websites on your computer that may be blocked at your IP address.
There is a downside to Smart DNS though. If you don't configure it correctly, it may cause more issues than it solves. You can view the settings in the app here:
You'll see that you can select either DHCP or Manual setup. They also offer an option to allow anyone to use your connection.
The most important settings are on the DNS server tab.
Does Surfshark work on PS4?
If not I'd suggest looking into something more specific for the console.
I'm assuming you have good internet?
If you need to go back a bit: How much storage is available on your PS4? Is there an adequate amount of space in your PS4? Does Surfshark work with your Sony Entertainment Network account when connected to WiFi? Thanks for considering surfshark. We have many customers who use PS4 (the majority of customers) and it works just fine. This thread may help others using PS4.
Do you plan on updating this answer or are you just here to troll/flame, etc? Do you actually have experience with PS4 surfing at all? I doubt you do because if that were the case I'm sure your service would have launched and then you wouldn't be asking questions like "?
Does Surfshark have smart DNS?
By now we've all heard of DDOS attacks, DDoS attacks and DNS DDoS attacks.
There are a few different types of attacks that can happen on the internet. These attacks can be very annoying to the owners of a web server. A DDoS attack involves sending massive amounts of traffic to a web server causing the server to overload and shut down. This is why DDoS attacks are often referred to as a distributed denial of service attack (or simply DDoS).
Surfshark does provide some very handy tools to help you protect your DNS from a DDoS. Surfshark does not promise that it will always prevent an attack but it will provide you with a tool to help you deal with one.
The most popular tool is called DDoS Shield which will allow you to see what DNS requests are coming in to your server and also monitor traffic on the network. Surfshark will also give you access to the logs so you can analyze the traffic to see if you are under attack. In this guide we will take a look at how to use the DDoS Shield. We'll start with a simple web server running on Ubuntu with Apache. You can follow along at your own risk but I'll provide some basic information for you to get started.
Setting up your server. In order to get the DDoS Shield working you'll need to configure a few settings on your server. If you already have a web server running on your computer you can skip this step.
The first thing you'll need to do is make sure that your web server is listening on port 80. Sudo systemctl restart httpd. Next we need to configure your firewall to allow access to your web server. The command below will setup port 80 access for our web server.
Sudo ufw allow 80. You'll also need to add some rules to make sure traffic can get out of your web server. This is a fairly important step because if your firewall is blocking traffic out of your server then your server is going to stop serving web pages.
Sudo ufw allow 8080/tcp. We are going to tell our web server to listen on the 8080 port. In order to do this we need to add the following line to our /etc/apache2/ports.conf file.
