Why is ABC getting rid of its app?

If my understanding is correct, there will be no ABC app after October and all ABC programmes will come to you as a television streaming service.

Why bother giving it away for free when you don't need to compete against yourself? There is a lot that I can't comment on but the most important thing to me is if everyone in Australia can use their ABC app whether they pay or not. This makes all of my content searchable. Without that I don't even think about going on ABC.

@Tatas. Why should a free option stay for people who can't afford a streaming package? What does that mean about the people who can't afford Netflix? Should they just have to wait until their company gives them something similar? Why is the 'free' ABC app any better than the paid app? Why doesn't the paid app give access to ALL of the content? There is literally no reason to justify why someone would want to get rid of the free one. You said; I don't use the 'ABC App'. I watch ABC online and through their websiteit's what they provide me for their content. For free.

But why did you have to say that you don't use the app? That made no sense. You are telling me you don't use the 'paid' app then? What stops me from going to your site, typing in the title of the episode and watching it? Because I know I could get it on some type of streaming. Also, the comments were about people who had a free trial. People are entitled to get what they're trying to work. Also if a company (i.e: ABC) is offering a free trial but not providing what it was supposed to and you can't find what you're looking for; I think you might have legitimate reasons to be upset.

You see where I'm coming from? Everyone should have at least ONE streaming app that will stream everything that you can with free. You can make this easy to understand with a new term: The free ABC app is more like Netflix than the paid ABC app. The Netflix model is to give access to everything as possible for free.

Why can't I watch ABC live stream?

The first ever ABC broadcast of the NRL Grand Final was delayed for a few hours this morning.

The reason given by the broadcasters was that a technical issue had occurred at the same time as the game, causing a major disruption to the network. This has been verified on the networks website and with a number of other media outlets.

The issue was resolved by about 5pm this afternoon, allowing viewers to catch up on the action. I'd assume that this is because of the huge audience watching the game online. We'll just have to wait and see when the game goes live tonight.

Re: Can't watch Live ABC coverage - any ideas? It's been a while since I've watched a Grand Final but the last one I watched was the 2026 Super League Grand Final between Wigan and Leeds. I remember being annoyed at the fact that you couldn't stream the game via the internet or phone. There was no option to stream the game via the internet and as far as I know you couldn't stream it via your mobile phone. I remember going to an internet cafe in the city centre in the hope that they would be showing the game but they were all showing football matches and rugby union instead. So that didn't work out very well.

It was only a couple of years ago that they started streaming the Super League games live via the internet, which is nice. I can't see why they haven't done the same with the NRL Grand Final, but it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully they'll start doing this soon.

The only option for watching the Grand Final is to watch it live on TV, so you'll have to wait until the Grand Final is over. I'm a little surprised that they're not streaming it. They've had the option to do this for years, although I guess they were waiting to see how the streaming went on the day. But to me, it's not a great sign that they're not doing this, especially with the game being live on Sky Sport's online platforms.

I'd agree with that. While it may be a technical issue, it still seems like they are taking this game so seriously that they want to protect their investment in a potential big weekend.
