How to unblock any websites at school without VPN?
My school is in China.
They have an internet filter. I try to unblock VPN sites, but this can only be done with a vpn. However, many people at my school know how to use a vpn. Can they not also unblock websites with a regular proxy?
The school only allows VPNs that comply with Chinese law. That's why they didn't allow BitTorrent, which is why you use the proxy software to bypass the school's filters. Unfortunately, their filters are too extensive for this software. Their filters would block any proxy from working on school computers, so that's why you have to buy the VPN software. The school also blocks most VoIP services, so you cannot use Skype or Google Hangout, even though those are completely legal in China.
There isn't a way around the school's firewall, since they don't allow proxies or VPNs. They're not even an ISP (and there aren't any data plans), so they're basically a closed down school network.
To unblock the VPNs in China, your school requires a special software (or your computer runs special hardware) to block the VPN software, and then some specific websites on the VPNs. This happens because the VPNs in China are not completely legal, and they have to follow the rules set by the government (which isn't the United States). Your school probably has a very short contract with the company providing the VPN software, so they're just paying for that (and using extra bandwidth for the students using the VPN).
Can we stop using proxy servers to make our connection private when at school? What is a good one? I've heard about Shadowsocks but I don't know how to use it or if its a good one. That can only work if you're using a proxy outside of the school, because only the server that serves the proxy and the client software that connects to it are unblocked. Any school in the world would probably block the proxy, so you can only unblock it on the way out of China.
Your best bet is to ask the school to let you use VPN software that supports a proxy server. They might not allow it, or it might cost extra.
How do I bypass a VPN on school Wi-Fi?
I have a question.
I'm going to school and will be using their Wi-Fi.e. The problem is that there is an in house VPN that runs on the school network. How do I get around it? I'm running a personal VPN on my phone, but I'm worried that if I do the same for the school network, it may not work because the school network is locked down. Can I bypass a VPN on school Wi-Fi?
I'm currently using a free VPN service called Hotspot Shield. Is there any way to get around this? I've tried using a proxy, but that didn't work. It's a shame because this is a great service, but I can't get past the fact that I can't use it.
I guess I could use an SSH tunnel, but I'm not sure how to do that. Thanks! Hi, you can bypass any kind of firewall, just by using a proxy. When you use a proxy, the traffic is redirected through your computer, and it's your computer that has to do the work. You would be using your own computer as a proxy server, and you can configure it just like you can a VPN server. However, you would need to run the proxy server on your computer, so you can do whatever you want. You can use the IP address of your proxy server, or you can use its DNS name (what you type in the browser to reach it, such as google.com). You can also use a VPN server. So, if you don't trust the proxy server (for example, if it's run by a company), you can use a VPN server instead. In this case, you would be the proxy server, and you could be very secure, since you would have the entire network under your control.
I know the school will block stuff like Youtube, Facebook, etc. What other things will I be able to get past? Hi, there's a huge range of websites that are blocked in the USBut, for example, you can get around Youtube by using another web browser. Or you can use the browser that's used by all of us: Opera.
