How to set a PTR record in CloudFlare?

What are the best practices for PTR record?

How long does a PTR record live?

Traditionally, a pre-transfer request record (PTR) lasts 12 months. The PTR can be automatically renewed by our system, in the next run of the calendar month. In our practice, 12 months is the ideal period for your transfer request to be reviewed and assessed for inclusion. Beyond 12 months from creation of your pre-transfer request record, it is possible for a PTR record to be auto-renewed. Please contact support@transactionstate.com if you would like further guidance on when your record should be reviewed for renewal.

How long does a PTR record remain visible to people visiting my website? A PTR record will appear on your website whenever you make a site-wide post about the transfer. A PTR record will not appear on your website if you make a transfer but do not mention it in any content you post on the site. If the post containing a PTR is not at least 6 months old, it will be automatically removed. A PTR record appears on your website until the request is either completed, cancelled, or expired.

When does a PTR record expire? A PTR record expires after the 12th month following its creation if the record is not renewed. A PTR record expires after a certain number of days after its creation, which we'll discuss below.

Is my transfer request private? Yes. By default, your transfer request is private, unless you choose to allow someone to view your request by making the request public. The transfer request stays private after it is created. A customer's request to transfer funds can be accessed, read, and reviewed at any time; however, no one can initiate a transfer without the Pending Transfer Approval page showing the request as pending approval or rejection.

Can I edit my PTR record? Yes, you can click Edit and make changes to your information, as long as you are logged into your account. What happens when I try to edit my PTR record and don't see an error message? When you try to save your edits, we display a message saying, You cannot save this change until the pending transfer approval is complete. Please try again.

How to set a PTR record in CloudFlare?

A PTR record is used to ensure that you always receive the response for a particular host in your CloudFlare DNS when it's behind a CloudFlare-provided IP address.

Without a PTR record, all of your responses will go through CloudFlare, regardless of whether it's a real IP address or not. A PTR record tells CloudFlare that you want to receive the response for a particular hostname if it goes through a CloudFlare-provided IP address. For example, a CloudFlare-provided web server will return the response for a request for www.com. However, if www.com goes through a CloudFlare-provided IP address, CloudFlare would not send the response to the visitor of www.com, even though they technically should. This means the visitor would get an error, because CloudFlare doesn't have a PTR record that it would send the response back to the visitor. That's why a PTR record is so important: It's how you tell CloudFlare to use a real IP address in place of a CloudFlare-provided IP address when a request comes from one of CloudFlare's IP addresses. It's also how you tell CloudFlare that it should send a response back to the visitor, even if they've gone through CloudFlare's IP address. Let's look at the instructions on how to set a PTR record.

. Note: This is only if you want to set a PTR record, so it's not if you're actually doing anything else with CloudFlare. You can click here to check out the full instructions on setting up CloudFlare without a PTR record. The instructions will be the same with a PTR record.

You can use either the CloudFlare Interface or the Web Dashboard to add the PTR record. Both methods are fairly simple, but the Web Dashboard is easier to use. You'll need to be logged into your account and have a CloudFlare account connected. There are two ways to log in to your CloudFlare account: One is by typing your domain into the search box on the CloudFlare website. The second is by clicking the Login button on the Web Dashboard. Either way, you'll be sent to the login page.

What is an example of a PTR record?

I have never worked with PTR records before, but I am starting to use them in our DNS now.

We want to make a web page available to a few countries that are not in the US. For example:
Www.mydomain.com should go to US servers, but in Australia the Australian version of the page would be served up.

Should I add a record for each country we serve? A PTR record is used to translate the IP address of a host into its current IP address. That is, if you have an IP address X and want to look up where to go if I want to connect to you, I can type: nslookup your.name and it will tell me what IP address I need to connect to. If I just type it will tell me what IP address it thinks I should connect to. In your case, you would enter. nslookup www.com and it will tell you which IP address your page would actually be connected to.
