Why is Scout so angry with Uncle Jack?

What are Scout's feelings about Uncle Jack?

We've been trying to figure out Scout's thoughts on all the things that have happened in the time since she was captured.

She has clearly moved on from the moment she was captured to the moment were able to rescue her, so we know there are things going through her head. Scout wants to be here and to work with us. That means that she has some mixed feelings about some of what has happened.

We know this because Scout asked us: What is Uncle Jack thinking right now? and we didn't know how to answer. At the time she was asking us, we had no idea that we had to answer with certainty. It took a while, but after discussing with everyone how we wanted to handle it, we made a decision and got answer from her.

Since then, we've had many other conversations with Scout, and she has continued to ask us these questions. The truth is that we can only really know how she is thinking with some certainty when she asks about the time period in between where she was captured and when we rescued her.

To help her answer these questions, we've created this post that lays out all the major events in the time between when Scout was captured and when she was rescued. The last question we're going to ask in this post is: Where do you think Scout will be at the end of the series? The Beginning. The beginning is a lot harder to talk about. Scout was captured on the day before the attack on Fort Sully. This was not an accident. Before the battle at Fort Sully, she was working on a map showing where her mother was. Scouts like her mother are given the responsibility of finding supplies for the fortifications before the attack. While she was working on the map, a man named Jack came by the tree she was sitting under. He was very nice and talked with her a bit, asking her questions and complimenting her. Scout noticed him, but thought that he was just another man who wanted to talk to her.

After Jack left, Scouts mom told her that Jack was the scoutmaster and that his job is to look out for Scouts like Scout. Scout's mom also told her that the scoutmaster is always watching and waiting for her to have a chance to rescue her.

How does Scout explain her behavior to Uncle Jack?

You see, Uncle Jack knows the truth about who his nephew is, and I know who my father is.

Yet, I still have a relationship with him. My sister was the one who could have been hurt by his lies. She needed him.

In the end, there really wasn't any choice; she had to leave him because he turned into such an unkind person. She didn't want my father to die for her. She just wanted him to know the truth that the Scout wanted to tell him.

It broke my heart to watch her have to lie to him. For what was probably the last time, she was pretending that her father was not only the man that she loved, but also the one she had to fight to protect.

We knew Uncle Jack would eventually come for me because he was obsessed with getting back what was his - me. I didn't want Uncle Jack to die because I wanted him to live. He deserved that much - a chance to live in peace. He told me he would have stayed with our father as long as he was alive, but when our father died, he found it impossible to stay.

He couldn't just pretend everything was okay, so he left. I felt sorry for my sister at first. I don't think she thought about the fact that I could be taken from her, too.

She had to care, and she did care. I remember the day she left. It was such a confusing day for me, because I was a teenager and she looked old, like she was leaving forever. Even though were born years apart, she never actually became my aunt. We were twins.

And I was still the one who took care of her during the last moments. If she didn't do anything, no one would ever get the chance to take that care away. I think in a way, maybe I killed her. And it wasn't even her fault.

I killed her because I am selfish. I am only thinking about me.

I can be the girl without anyone else's help, and that is good. What is also good is the fact that people might be able to tell the truth about their family.

People can have families that don't include me.
