Can you use Mullvad for free?
Yes, the software can be used for free, but the only limitation to do so is you must provide your email address to Mullvad for spam analysis on your outgoing email.
You can send emails to your friends, or to a third party, but you must provide your email address to Mullvad in order to do this.
Can I use it through a web proxy server? Yes, the proxy settings are supported and have been tested with many different configuration setups. However, Mullvad is unable to automatically update and manage the proxy settings, meaning that you must update the settings for each device. That's why we suggest setting up a VPN connection when using your browser with Mullvad.
I'm having trouble getting started with Mullvad. What should I do? Make sure you choose the correct service from the drop down menu and that all fields are set correctly: The first time you start Mullvad it will take a while to scan your servers and update its database information. If you see this 'database synchronization failed' message during this process the best thing to do is pause Mullvad and retry later. This is because your database of user and host information is out of sync with Mullvad. If you're still facing problems after retrying, let us know and our support team will help. Can you help me? If you want more information about what exactly is happening we recommend contacting our support team or browsing the knowledge base:
You're not seeing any hosts that show up in my server list. Mullvad searches the whole network on all services when your computer starts Mullvad. This includes searching your server computers and devices that your computer/laptop connects to the internet through. Your server and router will therefore need to be connected to an Ethernet switch (switch port) or your router will need to have one as well. To see the host status on your server or router you need to turn this off: Network>Hosts List Setting in the Hosts List menu. Network>Hosts List Off
I'm receiving an Access denied error. Check if the credentials for your ISP are correct or check to ensure that your firewall settings are correct. Mullvad will not work with an open port on your firewall.
Is Mullvad still good in 2024?
I've been using Mullvad since 2026 and I like it for privacy.
While I still keep my email and browsing at home, my mail is forwarded via a mail account I have on Mullvad and I'm in a place where I can't connect to wifi or use an Internet connection in general, so everything goes over their network tunnel.
Now I want to know if they are still the best that privacy matters, or if they have gone out of business. I understand that a lot of people aren't happy with the fact that they charge monthly and that their business model involves selling out customer data to third parties, but there's still a very wide range of alternative services that could be used with similar results - not to mention I'm pretty sure a lot of them run on open source software. There are very few companies these days that offer anything "above average" in terms of quality-value-performance balance - just look how few great mobile phone manufacturers there are nowadays, it's pretty obvious. I don't understand what you're complaining about. If I pay more money, then I might be able to afford better privacy. And I pay enough to have decent privacy. No need to get so hung up on your feelings.
While I don't think that is the best service for some, it does work, and the developers care about privacy issues and try to stay with good values. And if you don't want their prices, find another VPN, but stop blaming Mullvad because you don't understand why Mullvad charges money.
The VPN was free, they didn't charge any money, they gave me lifetime free access. I have no reason to complain. I did see one of their advertisements recently for their VPN service and that's when I first became aware that they weren't entirely altruistic about their free service - it seems they sell your data and sell your privacy at the same time. Their VPN software, which I'd never had any reason to use before this, suddenly looked like the most interesting option. But once I looked at it, I realised that it was built entirely around that business model. It's not my decision whether or not I agree with the business plan. I've not had any contact with the developers, who are Norwegian, as far as I know, so I just can't form an opinion on the matter.
Is Mullvad worth reddit?
I have been looking at several VPNs lately and I am not satisfied with the current selection of VPNs available.
I have looked into Mullvad and it seems like a good VPN. Here is the scoop. Mullvad is a free VPN based in Sweden. If you are from Europe, you will get a free 3-year subscription to Mullvad. I have not used any VPNs so I am basing my assessment on the reviews and comments that I have read on reddit.
Some of the advantages are: You can connect up to 4 devices (if you are in Sweden) to your account. You can also use your account on more than one device if you buy a subscription.
No registration. No logging. No throttling. The disadvantages are: The service is not very well advertised. The server is located in Sweden. This means that you will have latency. I would assume this would be bad for video streaming.
I am not sure if the support is good. What are some other factors that might influence me? Here are some comments that I found from reddit.] The lack of any logging or even a privacy policy, even if the service says it doesn't collect logs, that's an issue. It has nothing to do with anonymity as that requires trust. A service which claims to keep no logs and collect no data should be able to prove that. That's what we get from Mullvad, they cannot. That's not an issue with anonymity, that's an issue with privacy. It's a big problem. They don't have a privacy policy because they think they're anonymous. And to make sure it's being encrypted. Mullvad claims not to log anything but if it's only their vpn ip that you trust, it doesn't mean much. Also if you connect multiple times, make sure the connections are encrypted. There are a lot of other reasons why a vpn is a bad idea, but I won't list them here. That's what the wiki is for. Just make sure you know why before signing up. There are a lot of free vpn services that claim to be anonymous, but are not.
Does Mullvad charge monthly?
Yes. The amount that is charged per month is based on the number of users and their monthly traffic. We have a good range of plans to fit any budget.
Can I create a free account? No, we have no plans to offer free accounts. Can I cancel my subscription at any time? Yes, you cancel your subscription at any time. You will receive an email with instructions on how to do this.
What is the minimum time period for a subscription? We have a minimum of one year. However, we recommend a longer period to allow you to evaluate if the service is worth it.
What is the refund policy? We never charge a refund. If you do not like the service or change your mind, you can simply unsubscribe and you will get all of your money back.
What is the difference between the basic and premium versions? The basic version of Mullvad is free. Premium is a paid service that has additional features.
What is the difference between the free and premium versions? We offer two free versions of our service. The free version has some limitations and can be used for small networks, and the premium version offers unlimited data and a better service.
What is the difference between a shared plan and a private plan? A shared plan is offered to organizations or companies. It allows them to share Mullvad servers and data for a larger network. This is generally the most cost-effective option if you are starting a new network.
A private plan is offered to individuals and is much more expensive. It allows you to manage your own server.
How do I get started with Mullvad? When you first sign up for a free account, you will be directed to a page with a few tutorial videos. It will show you how to download the software, configure it, and start using it.
I'm not getting the emails. What should I do? Try restarting your email client. Most often the issue can be solved by doing this. You can also try resetting your account settings. Just visit your profile page in the web panel and click on the reset button in the bottom right corner.
