What happens when an iPhone goes into lost mode?

Can you unlock a lost mode on an iPhone?

No, but you can make a custom firmware to do it.

And since this was a jailbreak, you have total control over the software.

What's really cool about the jailbreak is that it works with an iPhone 4S, as well. Even though the iPhone 4S runs iOS 6, it has all of the new features of iOS 7.

Apple had some smartly put controls on the home button of the iPhone 4S. If you press on the home button, you get to the main menu. If you press down, you get a new feature called Control Center. Finally, if you press up, you get to Control Center settings. (There is also a small "?" on the top of the home button, but if you press on it, it turns red.)

In Control Center you will find four buttons that will allow you to change settings. These settings are Airplane Mode, Volume Control, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. To get to Control Center you just need to press and hold the home button on the iPhone.

To unlock a mode on the iPhone, follow these steps. Make sure that you are connected to Wi-Fi or 3G. That way, you can open Safari.e. Go to the Apple site and use the same process that we discussed earlier for unlocking modes. Go to:

When the webpage opens up, click on the Install button. (If you do not know what the button looks like, it's a green circle with a white arrow on it.)

In the next screen, simply click on Install and follow the prompts. When the install is complete, open Safari.e. The web page will say "Unlocked" when you open Control Center and then click on Settings.

You will see a message at the top saying "Cydia is installed." Underneath the message will be a list of apps you can download from Cydia. There will be several apps that are available for download. Tap on the apps that you want to download and install.

Now open System Settings and under "General," you will see a new icon. It says that you have a new "jailbreak." If you tap on the Jailbreak icon, you can look at some of the apps you can download. If you tap on "Settings," you will find more options.

What happens when an iPhone goes into lost mode?

This is the first time in my 13 years at CNET that I found myself as the iPhone troubleshooting guru. It's my role to fix phones, and I try to do a good job, but sometimes phones keep coming into my studio, where I sit with my head in my hands. So many times people walk into my studio and want to know why their iPhone is acting funny, why it won't turn on or won't load apps. Sometimes they're so frustrated that they don't leave a number, so I just go over the phone with them and figure it out.

Usually, I have all the right tools and all the right ideas -- most of the time. But more often than not, things can go horribly wrong. And there are three situations that are really bad.

First, there's the I can't turn on the phone because the phone thinks it's on Airplane Mode -- that's not good. Most cell phones use an airplane-mode-like service called waking on data. It's a way for your phone to know if you're on a network with a limited capacity, like a mobile broadband connection from your carrier. So even if your phone is totally dead, it thinks it's still on the network because there's a signal going in, even if the network doesn't exist anymore. When the phone is sleeping or in lost mode, this feature means that it will be harder to do the following: Turn on the phone. Access the settings. Download updates. Set up iCloud storage or sync content with another device. Turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GPS.

For people in a lost-mode state who have turned Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, the phone will stay that way until it enters normal mode, and that's almost never what you want. So you need to be able to access your phone, even if it won't charge or sync with iCloud or the cloud.

How secure is iPhone lost mode?

I am looking to see how secure it is to use lost mode when traveling.

The phone is in the Lost mode, where I enter the unlock code but I will never be 100% sure I would remember it if I ever had a chance of unlocking the phone again.what am I missing?

You could do this, in theory at least: Put it in a Faraday pouch. Leave the key off the phone. Find the closest Police station. See if you can recover anything from its memory. The problem with this isn't that people have been known to find stuff in their phones' memories (we are all going to be dead, at some point). It's the risk that as they find stuff, that they will post it for all the world to see. They will go through all this pain to recover something worth little, only to have it end up on the Internet for anyone to laugh at.

If you really want to do this - and honestly, there are likely things you would rather not have found if you have your phone, even encrypted - you should do this at night when you know no one else is around. When you do find anything, you can either put a password in that requires you to physically type it (the phone can't be unlocked by text messages), or, you can go ahead and just put up stuff on the Internet so everyone can judge you.

This is an old thread which has come to this answer many times before, and there isn't a lot new information to add to what has been said there so I thought I would just delete this old nonsense. Most people don't need true "Lost" mode for themselves. If you're locked out because of forgetfulness and can still remember a password after you've tried 7 consecutive 6 digit numbers, then you shouldn't need lost mode at all.

Even under the most likely circumstances where you can get your data back, there's a 1 in 8 chance of somebody doing your encryption for you. Even if somebody else doesn't access the data, the fact that someone else may have access does not mean they won't use the data to make cash, or trade for other data that could be used to make money, or sell or pass on this data to someone who is already making money with this data.
