What is Configure proxy in Wi-Fi settings?
I have a Galaxy S7 Edge running on Android 7.
0 Nougat. In the Wi-Fi settings (under Network and Connections), I see "Configure proxy. However, I am unable to navigate this screen.
My network provider doesn't support web proxy usage, but it supports the VPN usage. I had used VPN services on Android earlier. Is this one and only option left for me or there is another way to work around it? I would appreciate any comments.
Here is a picture: Thanks. It's likely that you did not provide a username/password for your VPN service, which is needed for the WiFi Settings menu to open up. Since you did not make any changes to your account, the options you see are as-is.
Should configure proxy be on or off?
I'm using a proxy server on my lan connection, but I'm afraid that because I don't have it on, all internet web connection for users may be restricted.
Is this a legitimate concern? Anyone having knowledge on configuring the network on a mobile device would you care to share it with us? I use the proxy (http) from the Google mobile client. It is not on all the time as most users do not need it. However I would suggest turning it off in the settings anyway.

Mike OJul 12 '12 at 0:04. Well if you are a Mac user don't you remember all sorts of information about system settings, such as proxy settings, battery status, wifi networks etc. JkdflaDec 2 '14 at 12:28. The purpose of such proxy setup is that the device can be set with very minimal Internet usage. This can be helpful for example when the device's battery life is short. In many cases it is much better to just be without the Internet.
However if you use the 3G connection and there is no need for the device being disconnected from the Internet all the time (as it does now) the problem does not exist. Furthermore once an Internet connection is established, then it will be good enough for the most part of the time so the cost to leave the Internet running even is quite low. I prefer that it is off so I don't have to think about proxy settings on my phone. Also some things I only need it for once or twice a week.

Some apps depend on a certain version of proxy settings so if the settings change, they are invalid. This happens also with mobile data settings, network/location preferences.
