Is AdBlock for free?

Yes, or at least most of it is free. What you are missing is that some of the content you read is actually a clickbait advertisement. What about that? Well, I have my reasons.

In this article, I try to explain why I love AdBlock. If you don't like it, please stop reading now. You're ruining my article.

AdBlock for free. If you block all the ads and trackers in the adblocker, you get a small performance boost. There is just one little inconvenience with this solution: You miss all the free content.

In many websites, there is a small icon somewhere in the page which allows you to show the content to others without advertisements. For example: when on Facebook you can see the posts without the advertisement. If you think I'm exaggerating, then you should try it for yourself.

This icon shows you the non-advertising version of the web page. Yes, it's not as convenient as the regular adblocker (or just blocking all the ads). Here are a few websites where you can see how much speed is gained by unblocking content: Netflix. Reddit. Google Chrome. Safari.e. Yahoo Mail. Twitter. HBO GO. BBC iPlayer. Amazon. YouTube. Spotify. Dropbox. Vimeo. Wikipedia. If your favorite website has a similar tool, please post it on Twitter. Why I love AdBlock. Here comes the big surprise. You know what? I believe that there are tons of free things we all forget about every single day, and this is definitely among them. Most of these things are really easy to miss and take us back in time. But they are also the reason why we are here.

Here is a list of things you might be surprised to find on the Internet for free: An offline copy of a video on YouTube. An English version of an image on Facebook. An offline version of a news article from the BBC. Music videos from YouTube playlists. A live radio broadcast of your favorite podcast. These are just a few examples. The list goes on and on, as almost any website has some kind of free content you can access.

Is Chrome getting rid of AdBlock?

From a Google insider: "The browser has been testing its AdBlock-like ad filter for years now, but it's time to go public. It's not clear when the feature will go live, but I'm told it will be later this year. The plan is to have it available to all Chrome users. I'm told that it will be an opt-in, non-intrusive option that will be activated by default.

Some of the features will be similar to what we've seen from AdBlock Plus. For example, Chrome will block ads that are annoying or distracting and allow blocking of ads that serve malware.

AdBlock-like filters aren't new. Firefox already has a built-in ad filter called AdBlock Plus. It was originally developed by the Mozilla Foundation and released in 2023.

An anonymous reader writes "Microsoft's latest internet browser, Edge, is designed to work on Windows 7 and Windows 8, but even though the company has dropped compatibility support for Windows XP, there are still some Windows XP users who may want to switch to Edge. How do I turn on AdBlock on Chrome?

Is there an easy way to enable AdBlock for Chrome? I am not talking about a plug-in; rather, an option in the Google Chrome interface where I can easily enable or disable it. Simply click on Tools, and then choose Options from the list. Then scroll down to the section under "Privacy" and click on "Content settings. Click on the tab labeled "Ads" and select the radio button next to "Block ads (on all websites)". You can repeat the steps for other content settings as well.
